Benson — American Tier VIII destroyer.

The new destroyers were planned as an improved Sims class with an échelon arrangement of the propulsion unit. Based on the experience with previous classes, it was decided to rearrange all torpedo tubes along the centerline, reduce their number to two, and replace the quadruple-tube torpedo launchers with quintuple-tube launchers. During World War II, USS Benson escorted convoys in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, and she supported landings in Sicily and Italy. Later, she accompanied aircraft carriers in the Pacific. Over the course of the war, she was awarded four battle stars.

Player Opinion

Performance

The Benson carries over many aspects of the previous ship the Mahan, and improves most of the characteristics. The speed has been increased, torpedo damage, detection range, and firing range have been improved. A very flexible destroyer that is able to fit into many different situations, defending against battleships, stealth firing with the "Advanced firing training" captain perk, and knife fighting other destroyers. The Benson will be able to fulfill any destroyer role it is assigned.

Pros:

Fast turret rotation speed.
Rate of fire is excellent.
2 x 5 torpedo tubes.
Capable of stealth torping
Capable of 5.8/2.9 km concealment

Cons:

Very Weak armor.
AA guns are mainly for show and will rarely shoot anything down
High shell arch makes it hard to hit fast moving ships
AA hull makes the Benson lose the number "3" turret

Research

Research the second hull to gain more HP
then research the new torpedoes for more torpedo damage
next research the new fire control system to gain ~1 km of range
the last AA hull is optional.

Commander Skills

As a American hybrid destroyer it's about your play style in this ship. The third row is more about if you use premium consumables or not: Vigilance before Superintendent if you do, Superintendent before Vigilance if you don't.
