In World of Warships, there are four main types of currency:

Credits: Credits, also commonly referred to as silver, are the standard currency and can be earned in battle by doing things such as damaging the enemy, spotting, capturing bases, etc. It is also rewarded for completing missions. Credits are spent in several ways:

  • Purchasing ships.
  • Purchasing upgrades.
  • Purchasing premium consumables (22,500 credits).
  • Purchasing newly researched modules.
  • Instantly training a new captain to one point (10,000 credits).
  • Instantly retraining one half the required XP for a captain assigned to a non-premium ship (200,000 credits).
  • Purchasing camouflage that can improve concealment, increase enemy dispersion, or both (8,000 - 22,500 credits).

Experience (XP): XP, like credits, are earned in battle. Standard XP (silver star) can be used to research modules for your ship like upgraded hulls or guns. It can also be used to research the next level of ship. However, XP can ONLY be used for the ship it is earned with.

There is also free XP, which appears as a gold star. A small amount of free XP is earned with every battle, and can be used to research/unlock modules for ANY ship. Additionally, some missions may reward free XP. Accumulate enough free XP, and you can immediately upgrade a new ship, or skip a ship altogether. You can also use doubloons to generate more free XP.

Doubloons: Doubloons are World of Warships's version of Gold from World of Tanks and Warplanes. Doubloons can be purchased with money or awarded in events and contests. Doubloons have a multitude of uses:

  • Purchasing credits. The standard conversion is 1 doubloon = 1,500 credits.
  • Converting XP you have on elite ships to free XP. Elite ships are ships that have all modules researched; premium ships are elite by default. The standard conversion is 1 doubloon = 25 free XP.
  • Purchasing some premium ships via the tech tree.
  • Purchasing premium time, which provides a 50% increase in credit and XP earnings as well as a special port with a unique soundtrack.
  • Instantly retraining a commander on a new ship (500 doubloons).
  • Redistributing commander skills (cost increases as the number of commander skills increase).
  • Dismounting equipment from a ship for free. This equipment can be applied to a different ship. Note that you can also sell equipment for 50% of the credit cost.
  • Purchasing port slots (300 doubloons per slot).
  • Increasing the size of your commander reserve (100 doubloons for 4 slots).
  • Purchasing special consumables such as permanent (1,000 - 3,000 doubloons) or temporary camouflage (50 doubloons) or premium consumables. Camouflage can enhance XP gain. Premium consumables recharge faster, and in some cases give you an extra use.
  • Promoting a new captain to a 3 point captain (25 doubloons).
