?Kamikadze.jpeg| The Kamikaze underway.+====Design====
 +The ''Kamikaze'' class destroyers were built from an improved and slightly larger [[ship:Minekaze|''Minekaze'']] class design. The newer class featured a widened beam to allow for a larger superstructure. At the time of construction, the ''Kamikaze'' class destroyers carried the same machinery and armament as the preceding class, but the location of the aft torpedo tubes and main guns were altered. Numerous anti-aircraft guns and depth charge launchers were mounted on the ships before and during World War II which further increased their displacement. Consequently, ''Kamikaze'' and her sister ships suffered from a lower top speed.
 +
 +====Service====
 +Having been constructed and launched from 1922 to 1923, the nine ''Kamikaze'' class destroyers were obsolete by 1937 when war with China began. As older ships, they were primarily used as escorts for troop transports and invasion support. Their roles were expanded during World War Two to include escort of merchant ships, and later, once the system was implemented, convoy escort.
 +
 +Attrition was high and only one ship, ''Kamikaze'' herself, managed to survive the war intact. ''Kamikaze'' was wrecked in 1946, and in 1947 she was sold off and broken up for scrap.
 +
 +Of the remaining ''Kamikaze'' class destroyers, four were sunk by submarine, three by air, and one, ''Hayate'', was sunk by shore battery during the invasion of Wake Island in 1941.

Special

Fūjin — Japanese special premium Tier V destroyer.

A second group of 9 Minekaze-class destroyers, also known as the Kamikaze class, was built between 1921 and 1925. The ships featured an increased draft to improve their seaworthiness. Kamikaze was laid down under the name Destroyer No. 1 in 1921. Seven years later, the destroyer received her own name. In World War II, she was involved in the Aleutian Islands Campaign and escorted ship convoys to remote outposts in the Kuril Islands. In 1945, Kamikaze was reassigned to the Combined Fleet, and she formed part of the escort for both Ise-class battleships as they sailed from Singapore to Japan.

She is no longer available to purchase.

Player Opinion

Performance

Fujin is identical to the Kamikaze and roughly analogous to the Tier V tech tree ship Minekaze, except with a spooky Halloween-themed camouflage. She has powerful, fast reloading torpedoes that travel 7km at 68 kts with a maximum damage of 14,400 points, making her a serious threat to any ship she can spot. With a base detection of 6.2km (without camouflage or a captain with Concealment Expert), she has a significant spotting advantage over anything else in her tier that isn't a fellow Japanese destroyer, allowing her to deliver her torpedoes to unsuspecting targets.

Her guns are far more situational, with four 120mm barrels that have a 10 second reload and do 2000 points of damage per shell, making them only useful against other Japanese destroyers in an even fight. Engaging an American or Russian destroyer in a straight up 1v1 gunfight is a one-way ticket back to the Port screen. The guns are decent for harassing other ships using island or smoke cover, but captains must be very careful not to draw unwanted attention to themselves. Mobility-wise, Fujin handles like most other destroyers, with 37.5 knot top speed and a rudder shift time of 2.9 second and a 550m turning radius, faster than most American destroyers at tier, but slower than the Russian destroyers.

Pros:

  • Better turret traverse than Minekaze.
  • Bigger health pool than Minekaze.
  • As a premium ship, it makes more credits and experience than Minekaze.
  • Torpedoes are faster and deal more damage than Minekaze torpedoes.
  • Has three turrets that turn frontally, as opposed to two on the Minekaze.

Cons:

Research

As a premium ship, Fujin doesn't have any upgrades to research.

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

The recommended upgrades for Fūjin are as follows:

Commander Skills

The following information is provided for players who wish to create a permanent captain for the ship. Those players who are retraining captains or using the ship to gain extra experience for a captain should consult the page relevant to the ship to which the captain will be assigned.

Consumables

Fūjin equips the following consumables:

Camouflage

As a premium ship, Fujin comes included with Type 9 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, and increases the amount of experience she earns.

Signals

Note: Use of the Juliet Charlie signal makes detonation impossible.
