On achieving Access Level 4, captains can display non-national flags.

At Access Level 5, captains unlock the ability to fly signals on their ships that grant small bonuses to game play.

Signals

Signals are small flag-like pennants, displayed individually or as a set, that nominally are used to communicate to other ships. In game, they confer combat bonuses to the ship flying them. A maximum of eight (8) combat signals can be flown simultaneously. Signals are consumed after use. They can be obtained as follows:

  • Signals can be purchased in the Armory for Coal Coal or Credits Credits.
  • Two weekly combat mission chains are available. The missions can be completed in Random, Ranked, and Co-op Battles, as well as in Operations and Brawls.
    • The first mission chain comprises three missions with the same condition. You must earn 2,500 Base XP in victorious battles. Reward: up to three "More Signals" containers and one Gift container.
    • The second mission chain comprises five missions with the same condition. You must earn 5,000 Base XP in victorious battles. Reward: up to five ""More Signals" containers and two Gift containers.
  • Containers, especially More Signals and Try Your Luck containers, hold signals.
  • Campaigns, challenges, and combat missions often reward signals.
  • Signals can be sold from Inventory for Credits Credits, though this is generally not worthwhile.

In order to equip signals, click the "Equipment" tab under the BATTLE! button in the top center of the port screen. The currently mounted and discouraged signals are displayed. Click on the desired signal. Demount a signal in the same way. Refer to the Port article for more information.

National Flags

Each ship in the tech tree of a single nation flies the national flag or naval ensign of that nation. Ships from tech trees that cover multiple nations — such as Commonwealth, Pan-Asia or Europe — can choose to fly either the "national" flag shown in the tech tree, or the ensign of the nation they actually represent.

Non-national Flags

Beginning at Access Level 16 captains may elect to hoist a non-national flag alongside the ship's national flag. These flags may be obtained from a variety of sources: from in-game events, to special flags available in certain ship bundles in the store, to contests or events on the regional forums.

Flags differ from Signals in key ways.

  • Signals are functional where flags are cosmetic. (The few flags that affect rewards are rare and generally unavailable.)
  • A player is limited to displaying one (1) non-national flag on each ship. (The ability to display two (2) may be earned through some Collections.)
  • A flag is not consumed when displayed; it stays hoisted until the captain orders it hauled down.
  • The same flag may be displayed on more than one ship at a time.
