General terms
A
- All skill, no luck: Said sarcastically after a lucky play.
- Angling: To present a near-bow-on (~20 degrees) angle to the enemy in order to increase the chance of bouncing enemy shells. Used in ships with thin bow armor and thick side armor. Compare bow tank.
B
- BB: Abbreviation for battleship.
- Bow tank: To point the bow of one's ship directly at the enemy in order to increase the chance of bouncing enemy shells. Used in ships with thick bow armor and thin side armor. Compare angling.
- Buff: Increasing the performance of a ship or other item in a game patch. Opposite of nerf.
C
- CA: Abbreviation for heavy cruiser.
- CL: Abbreviation for light cruiser.
- CV: Abbreviation for aircraft carrier.
D
- DD: Abbreviation for destroyer.
- Deleted: Destroyed, especially from full health by citadel hits.
F
- Focus, focus fire: Having multiple ships fire at the same enemy in order to eliminate it quickly.
- Fun and engaging: Phrase used to mock developers for including the detonation mechanic.
G
- GG: Good game. Used both sincerely and sarcastically.
L
- Lemming, lemming train: When most or all of a team travels together in a tight group. While this achieves concentration of force, the lack of map presence makes it difficult to take more than one capture point in Domination mode, and is vulnerable to being flanked.
N
- Nerf: Decreasing the performance of a ship or other item in a game patch. Opposite of buff.
- NS: Nice shot.
P
- Pink: A player who has a pink icon due to dealing damage or sinking an ally.
- Potato: An unskilled play or player.
- Push: To advance towards the enemy.
R
- RNG, RNGesus: Refers to any random factor in the game, particularly shell dispersion.
S
- Salt, salty: Anger, especially excessive.
- Scrub: An unskilled player, especially one with no interest in improving.
- Seal clubbing: An experienced player who plays in the lower tiers in order to fight new, inexperienced players. This is often done to get easy wins and increase the player's win rate. Note that the player's intention is key here. Playing low tier in the normal course of starting up a new line is not considered Seal Clubbing.
T
- TK: Team kill. Sinking or attempting to sink an ally.
W
- Wall of skill: Derogatory term for the large torpedo salvoes produced by high-tier destroyers.
- WR: Win rate.
Y
- YOLO: You Only Live Once. Refers to reckless, aggressive play.
