+ | Using the experience of WW1, the United States Navy started work on a new generation of destroyers near the end of the war. Demands for a destroyer leader with 1,750 tons arose, as the flushdeckers while reliable and deemed expendable were considered insufficient, and with a larger displacement it was hoped to overall improve the usability of destroyers.
+ | ||||
+ | For the first time a USN destroyer was to be equipped with a double bottom, which would give an improved survivability against numerous sources of damage. The ship in question was meant to be 109.7m long, 9.95m wide with a draft of 3.1m at a displacement of 1,750 tons.
+ | ||||
+ | As a main armament five single mounted 127mm/51 guns were proposed, all on the centerline contrary to the flushdeckers which mounted six guns in a diamond-like arrangement, only permitting four of them to fire at a single target. As a secondary armament one or two 76mm dual purpose guns were to be carried. The torpedo armament combined both the idea of wing mounted launchers like on the flushdeckers and centerline mounted ones like they would become the standard during WW2. In total three triple launchers were to be equipped, a pair being wing mounted and one launcher on the centerline of the ship.
+ | ||||
+ | The machinery was greatly enhanced in comparison to the latest flushdeckers, with a total output of 42,800 shp the speed however would not be greater that that of the older destroyers, and the cruising range was also similar.

Hill — American special premium Tier V destroyer.
One of the ship designs meant to combine the features of both a destroyer and a cruiser was the preliminary design project of a destroyer leader with a displacement of 1,525 tons. The ship was supposed to have steam turbines with a gearbox, and her armament was to include five 127 mm guns. The predraft project was offered to the Bath Iron Works company, but the latter didn't show much interest, so the U.S. High Navy Command turned its attention to the 2,200-ton leader project.

Player Opinion
Performance
Hill is a tier V American US dd that could be earned through the 'Rogue Wave' event in update 0.8.5.. Compared to the tech tree counterpart "Nicholas", Hill has a lesser health pool but an extra turret. The Hill also has better turning circles and half knot speed faster. The Hill is a great dd hunter at low tiers where radar and hydro is limited. It will perform best hugging islands, leading the enemy toward you where you can torp them at close ranges. In open water, use smoke when someone else is spotting the target. For more information consult the review made by LittleWhiteMouse(NA).
Pros:
- Five fast-reloading US 127mm guns
- Good mobility with decently high top speed and decent turn radius.
- Extended duration US Smoke
- 3 triple torpedo launchers with one on the centerline
Cons:
- Very short range torpedoes makes it impossible to stealth torp
- Not the most well concealed DD
- Bad low tier AA
- Bad firing angles of the X turret(middle turret).
- Doesn't have defensive AA fire
Research
As a premium ship, Hill doesn't have any upgrades to research.

The recommended upgrades for Hill are as follows:
