Hindenburg — German Tier X cruiser.
A further development of the Admiral Hipper-class cruisers, unconstrained by the Washington Naval Treaty restrictions, could have been ships with four 203 mm triple-gun turrets. Such armament would have made the new German cruisers the strongest in their ship type right until the appearance of American ships of the Des Moines class with their rapid-firing mounts. However, priorities in shipbuilding shifted to submarines, and such a ship was never built in Germany.

Player Opinion
Performance
Pros:
- 10 second reload, can be reduced to 8.8 with the right module
- Excellent shell velocity and low gun arc makes hitting distant targets easier
- Best AP for a cruiser, can do massive damage when shooting at an un-angled ship
- Extremely strong AA armament, paired with defensive fire no carrier would attack you
- Longest gun range of any cruiser in the game, which can be boosted to 20.7km with the right equipment modules
- Decent torpedoes with good firing arcs
- Strong armor and hard to citadel when properly angled
- German accuracy
- Best hydro in-game
Cons:
- Extreme damage drop when using AP against angled ships
- Abysmal HE compared to other Tier 10 cruisers
- Sluggish maneuverability and low speed leaves much to be desired
- Large ship size, easy to hit
- Easy to citadel when not angled, not even Turtleback can save you
- High detectability ranges for a cruiser, 16km stock, although this can be reduced to 12km with the right equipment modules and commander perks selected
- Carries the same torpedoes as those found on the Königsberg, which only have a range of 6km

Optimal Configuration
As the pinnacle of the German cruiser line, Hindenburg offers more flexibility to her captain than any other top-tier cruiser in the game. She can be fitted out as an anti-aircraft platform rivaling that of Des Moines; she can boost her range and lower her detection radius, granting her the ability to fire from stealth; she can boost the rate of fire of her main battery significantly and turn her into one of the best damage dealers in the game. All of these options — and more — are available to Hindenburg captains, depending on which upgrades and commander skills they choose.
Upgrades
Upgrade Slot 3 is one determining factor in how Hindenburg will play. Her main battery can be fitted out for either maximum range with Gun Fire Control System Mod 2, or for maximum rate of fire with Main Battery Mod 3. Neither option is bad, though with a stock range of 17.8km, the likelihood of hitting targets 20km out with her shells is somewhat questionable. Most players opt for Main Battery Mod 3, lowering the reload time on her 203mm guns to 8.8 seconds.

Consumables
Hindenburg’s best-in-game Hydroacoustic Search is one of her strengths; the premium version is highly recommended for the reduced cooldown. It allows her to hunt down destroyers in close proximity — particularly those shielded by smoke — and to warn friendly captains of incoming torpedoes in more than ample time to avoid them. Repair Party II is also recommended for the quicker cooldown; Hindenburg’s detectability radius means that she may come under concentrated fire from the enemy team. Quicker access to her health regeneration ability will improve her survivability greatly.
Camouflage
Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Type 5 is highly recommended.Gallery
