Jaguar — French Tier V destroyer.
An ancestor of a sub-type of large destroyers (French "contre-torpilleurs") that were fast-moving ships, their speed being typical of the French Navy. In contrast to destroyers of that time, these ships had large dimensions and powerful artillery armament.
Jaguar first appeared in the tech tree on 24 Aug 2019.

Player Opinion
Performance
Tier V is an incredibly diverse tier for battleships, cruisers, and destroyers. No other tier can have within its ranks the Kamikaze sisters, Gremyaschy, and Okhotnik or boast greater variety among its destroyers than, possibly, Tier VIII. As such, it speaks to Jaguar's strengths that she can stand out among her peers. No other ship has even close to the 16,600 HP on Jaguar's researchable hull. Nicholas comes in a distant second with her 13,100 HP on Hull B.
Unsurprisingly, Jaguar's armament is a definite upgrade over her predecessor. She equips the same guns, just 5 of them instead of 4, and slightly improved torpedoes. Captains might recall Bourrasque needs to show almost a complete broadside to use all 4 of her guns. Jaguar's turret angles are slightly wider, though she still needs to expose significant broadside to fire a full salvo. At Tier V, competition from artillery-focused destroyers increases. Notably, Hill also has 5 guns with a similar damage per shell, though each reloads in just 75% of the time of Jaguar's. Additionally, the previously best-at-tier turret traverse of 20°/s becomes merely average at Tier V. To stay alive and maintain her influence throughout an entire game, captains must learn to stay at range and occasionally let allies do the spotting. Jaguar cannot win every destroyer duel with guns alone, though her high health pool affords her the ability to sustain some more blows. Furthermore, her high detectability range and lack of smoke gives an advantage to enemy destroyers that can more easily disengage.
Luckily, Jaguar's 6 torpedoes in 2 triple launchers are immensely powerful. Her torpedoes are capable of dealing more damage and traveling farther than even the infamous Kamikaze clones (and are tied for speed), albeit with a significantly longer reload time of 90 seconds. Only Jianwei's researchable deepwater torpedoes can deal more damage and Jaguar's 8 km torpedo range is second to none, though three other ships share this trait. Jaguar has a 0.8 km window where her detectability range is less than her torpedo range, which Concealment Expert helpfully extends to 1.5 km. This allows Jaguar to deliver devastating strikes from the safety of the shadows. Captains should keep in mind that Jaguar's torpedo angles are more limited than that of most Tier V destroyers, especially towards the bow.
Jaguar can do well, though it may be harder than in the preceding tiers. Her ability to take extra hits is, after more thinking, great!, though this may not be obvious in the midst of battle where dealing damage often comes first. However, this allows her appreciable armament to stay in play longer. Tier V comes with more competition whereas Tier VI comes with a major upgrade and distinction in the form of Main Battery Reload Booster. This places Jaguar in a weird position where some players likely will only play her so they can stop playing her.Pros:
- Hull B has highest health pool among all Tier V destroyers.
- 3rd largest main battery range of Tier V destroyers (behind Gremyaschy and Siroco).
- 5 guns with high damage per shell.
- Deadly torpedoes with nearly the highest maximum damage at her tier (behind Jianwei by 1,867 hp).
- Torpedoes have 8 km range (best at tier and tied with Mutsuki, Gremyaschy, and Visby) and 68 knots speed (best at tier and tied with Kamikaze clones).
- Torpedo range extends beyond detectability range, even without Concealment Expert).
- High speed of over 44 knots with Engine Boost and Sierra Mike (behind only Podvoisky with the same loadout).
- No Smoke Generator.
- 3rd largest detectability range (behind Podvoisky and Hill).
- Torpedo launchers reload in 90 seconds (2nd worst at her tier in front of Acasta).
- A fairly large turning circle (3rd largest behind Podvoisky and Okhotnik).
- Mediocre turret and torpedo arcs that require exposing broadside and effort to use well.
- Slowest Tier V destroyer when without Engine Boost (only 35.5 knots).
- Fast - 44.4 kts with speed boost and Sierra Mike signal
- Average torpedo reload [Not quite true. 90 seconds is worst at Tier V.]
Cons:
- Slow turret traverse [Depends significantly on perspective. I would say the turret traverse is average and decent. Americans are faster and Japanese are slower. The rest (including Jaguar) tend to be around 20 degrees/second.]
- Below average Main Battery reload [Also depends significantly on perspective. The Japanese have longer reloads as does some Soviet ships, Visby, and Jianwei.]
- Second worst concealment at tier V [Not quite true.]
- No Smoke Generator - vulnerable to CV's -->

Unlike the French cruisers, the French DDs don't seem especially apt to lose their steering or propulsion.
