Lepanto — Italian Tier IX battleship.

The project for a battleship with a displacement of 42,000 tons was prepared by Italian engineers under an order from the U.S.S.R. The ship should have been equipped with nine 406 mm guns in three turrets. If such a ship had been built in Italy, she would have been ready by 1940 or 1941. Since the 406 mm gun was not developed in Italy, an increase in firepower would only be possible by increasing the number of guns per turret. Quadruple turrets with 381 mm guns were developed for battleship projects in the late 1910s and early 1920s.

Player Opinion

Pros:

Has access to Semi-Armor Piercing main battery ammunition.
12 gun main battery broadside.
Flat ballistics.
Has Spotting Aircraft  to compensate for the short main battery range.
One of the best torpedo protection systems of all ships.
Decent AA defenses.
Good side armor.
Decent speed of 29.5 knots.
Has access to Exhaust Smoke Generator  that allows the ship to remain undetected at full speed.

Cons:

Does not have access to High Explosive main battery ammunition.
381mm rifles are relatively small for Tier IX.
Long reload of 37s, only 3s shy of Minnesota.
Firing range is one of the lowest for Tier IX battleships.
Wonky dispersion of main battery salvos.
Turret angles are a downgrade from Vittorio Veneto.
AA is short ranged.
Small health pool.
Concealment is not great.

Research

Recommended module research order:

Hull (B) For maneuverability (and a little more health). Research of this module unlocks progression to Cristoforo Colombo.
Gun Fire Control System: Upgrade to SDT 9 mod.2 for an extra 10% range on the main battery.
