Lexington — American Tier VIII aircraft сarrier.
Following the Washington Naval Conference, a decision was made to convert two Lexington-class battlecruisers into aircraft carriers. These ships exerted a substantial influence on future aircraft carrier design; the flight deck and outer sides of the hangar were integrated into the hull, providing longitudinal strength to the entire ship. Such a design allowed for a fully enclosed hangar space. At the time when the Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor, USS Lexington was in the process of transferring planes to Midway. During the Battle of the Coral Sea, USS Lexington sustained several bomb hits. Eventually, the decision was taken to scuttle the ship, and destroyer USS Phelps was tasked with sinking Lexington using torpedoes.

Player Opinion
Performance
The lexington is a strong aircraft carrier which is located at tier 8. It has the characteristically strong USN AA that shreds entire squads of enemy aircraft but it is recommended to utilise your fighters in order to maximise effectiveness against large strike groups. The Lexington is fast at 33.6 knots but it turns like a brick, and its huge size advertises its presence for miles around. Although she has a strong wing of aircraft, proper usage is vital as the AA power of most tier 8 ships and above that you encounter begin to be very competitive, even without air cover, and the "bigger but fewer squadrons" that the USN carriers have becomes more of a liability as it is easier to focus fire on key strike aircraft.
Pros:
- Excellent AA
- Strong fighters
- Matches the same speeds as cruisers of that tier.
- Strike planes will demolish most ships with a well-placed strike.
- Finally gets 1000-pound bombs, providing a boost to dive bombers' capabilities.
Cons:
- Very easy to detect at 17.5 km
- Strike planes can be eaten by enemy AA at high tiers, particularly cruiser AA.
- Most of the air wing is taken up by fighters when the Air Superiority loadout is used, leaving very few damage potential to enemy ships
- When using mod 2 , the Lexington got no fighter at all unlike the Shokaku's mod 2 which still have 2 squad fighters.
- Bad rudder shift time and turning circle radius
- Glass armor, it is not thin enough to let the AP shell from battleship to over-penetrate and not thick enough to block them, hence hit to citadel by battleship often happens even devastating strike by battleship in 1 salvo can happen
- Secondaries are unreliable since you will be shot at way before the secondaries can even fire.
- dive bombers have somewhat questionable accuracy same as Ranger, one must not really hope that auto aiming can successfully land a bomb on the enemy ships.
- even when Dive bombers' manual aim is perfect , the RNG will still make you miss 6 out of 6 (7 if you have air supremacy)even on big target such as battleship.
- although it's listed 10800 maximum damage each dive bomb can dealt , but most of the time the average damage by each bomb doesn't exceed 3500 damage
Research
- Always buy Vought F4U fighters upgrades first.
- Hull upgrade to increase AA and protection
- Upgrade to Grumman TBF
- Upgrade to Douglas SBD2
