Mackensen — German Tier VI battleship.

Battlecruisers that were being built during World War I. Their main advantage compared to their predecessors was enhanced firepower achieved through shifting to 350 mm main battery guns.

Mackensen was first released in Early Access with Update 0.10.9.

Performance

Pros:

Good main battery reload speed
Uses large cruiser dispersion
Improved secondary range and penetration
Secondaries have improved dispersion
One of the fastest Tier VI battleships
Lowest detection of all Tier VI battleships
Uses the Fast Damage Control Team  with a shorter cooldown
Has access to the Hydroacoustic Search  consumable

Cons:

Average health pool and weaker armor
Most of her AA defenses are short range
Below average AA DPS and only one flak cloud per salvo
Large turning circle with average rudder shift
One of the highest air detection ranges of Tier VI battleships
Limited charges of her Fast Damage Control Team

Research

Availability of researchable upgrades for Mackensen is as follows:

Gun Fire Control System: Upgrade to FKS Typ 6 Mod. 2 for an extra 10% range on the main battery.

Tier VII battlecruiser Prinz Heinrich is researched directly off the stock (A) hull. While the extra range of the upgraded fire control system can be helpful when bottom tier, her stock range is still sufficient for most same and top tier battles.

The recommended upgrades for Mackensen are as follows:

Slot 1: Main Armaments Modification 1
Slot 2: Damage Control System Modification 1 
Slot 3: Secondary Battery Modification 1 or Aiming Systems Modification 1
Slot 4: Damage Control System Modification 2

To get the most out of Mackensen’s secondaries, Secondary Battery Modification 1 is recommended. For players that wish to further improve her main battery performance, Aiming Systems Modification 1 should be selected instead.

For players with excess coal stockpiles, the Hydroacoustic Search Modification 1 in Slot 2 is available to further boost Mackensen’s hydro duration. But for those short on coal, it’s recommended to save that upgrade for the higher tiers.

Players should note that Mackensen’s Hydroacoustic Search consumable is the version found on VI Nurnberg rather than the version found on higher tier battleships like VIII Bismarck.

Camouflage

Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Types 1 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce detectibility range. Type 5 is preferred to reduce the dispersion of incoming shells as well.
Players who wish to spend doubloons can equip Mackensen with Type 16 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, reduces her repair costs, and increases the amount of experience she earns.
