Both of these ships possess. for all intents and purposes, two hull/module options to choose from; ''Monaghan'' with her stock hull and torpedoes, and her (B) hull with the torpedoes from the Tier VIII ''Benson'', while ''Farragut'' has the options between a (B) and (C) hull. ''Monaghan's'' stock configuration is nearly identical to that of ''Farragut's'' (C) hull; both are armed with 4 x 1 127 mm guns and 2 x 4 center line mounted torpedoes with a range lower than that of the ships' detection by sea. ''Monaghan'' beats out (C) hull ''Farragut'' in terms of firing range, hit points, and detection range, while ''Farragut'' gains a faster rudder and better AA. ''Monaghan'' also has the ability to swap her {{Defensive AA Fire}} consumable for a {{Torpedo Reload Booster}} consumable. With her stock configuration, ''Monaghan'' will enjoy a play style identical to that of ''Farragut''; firing from cover or smoke and doing opportunistic but risky torpedo runs on enemy ships.

? | + | ''Monaghan's'' uniqueness comes into play with her (B) hull configuration. In this configuration, she sacrifices her two rear-facing main guns for a single quad and single double 40 mm Bofors mounts, and two double mounts amidships. She also gains the option of mounting the Mk15 mod. 3 torpedoes; the same torpedoes found on the fully upgraded Tier VIII destroyer, ''Benson''. Unlike the stock torpedoes, these are mounted in a 2 x 5 configuration with greatly increased range and damage at the loss of speed and ~50% slower reload. The long range torpedo option allows ''Monaghan'' to "stealth-torp"; an ability not found in the tech-tree American destroyers until the Tier VII ''Mahan'' with her upgraded torpedoes.

? | + | ''Monaghan'' takes on a vastly different play style in this configuration. Captains will find that she plays more similarly to a Japanese torpedo-focused destroyer than an American destroyer. With only two guns, she will have little to no ability to contest capture points, and will be hampered in her ability to light fires on larger ships. Captains will also be forced to make a decision between a 30 second Torpedo Reload Booster consumable or Defensive AA Fire. Captains should take note that although ''Monaghan'' in her (B) hull has increased AA, her AA even with Defensive Fire active will still be lack luster against higher-tier aircraft. Her Torpedo Reload Booster is also greatly inferior to the version found on Japanese destroyers.

+ | In summary, ''Monaghan'' offers a fairly unique play style in comparison to her tech-tree counterpart and most other USN destroyers, while still being compatible with captains of the USN destroyer branch for accelerated training and credit earning. Her two hull options offer either a safe and familiar play style, or a more torpedo-focused style similar to that of other nations' destroyer lines.

Monaghan — American special premium Tier VI destroyer.
This Farragut-class destroyer's main battery consisted of dual-purpose guns. In 1942, one of the 127 mm guns was removed in order to install automatic anti-aircraft guns.

Performance
On the outside, the Tier VI Premium American destroyer Monaghan appears identical to her tech-tree counterpart and sister, Farragut. Both of these ships possess. for all intents and purposes, two hull/module options to choose from; Monaghan with her stock hull and torpedoes, and her (B) hull with the torpedoes from the Tier VIII Benson, while Farragut has the options between a (B) and (C) hull. With her stock configuration, Monaghan will enjoy a play style identical to that of Farragut; firing from cover or smoke and doing opportunistic but risky torpedo runs on enemy ships.
Monaghan's uniqueness comes into play with her (B) hull configuration. In this configuration, she sacrifices her two rear-facing main guns for a single quad and single double 40 mm Bofors mounts, and two double mounts amidships. She also gains the option of mounting the Mk15 mod. 3 torpedoes; the same torpedoes found on the fully upgraded Tier VIII destroyer, Benson. Her two hull options offer either a safe and familiar play style, or a more torpedo-focused style similar to that of other nations' destroyer lines.Pros:
- All the pros of her USN peer Farragut
- Can mount Benson’s 9.2km range torpedoes (at the cost of two less turrets)
- Can mount Torpedo Reload Booster
- Can mount both Engine Boost and Defensive AA Fire unlike Farragut (must select either or, not both for the latter)
- Decent rudder shift
- Better concealment than Farragut

Upgrades
The recommended upgrades for Monaghan are as follows:
- Slot 1: Main Armaments Modification 1 *
- Slot 2: Propulsion Modification 1
- Slot 3: Aiming Systems Modification 1 *
- Slot 4: Propulsion Modification 1 ()
Slot 1 provides a choice between two generally useful options. Since the primary armament is dual purpose, Main Armaments Modification 1 is recommended, even for those who intend to specialize in anti-aircraft duties. For a reduced chance of detonation, players may choose to mount Magazine Modification 1 .
Slot 3 offers two viable upgrades. The first is Aiming Systems Modification 1 , which will boost Monaghan's ship-to-ship combat performance. Players wishing to specialize in anti-aircraft duties should mount AA Guns Modification 2 ().
Commander Skills
Players have an interesting choice regarding commander skills for the Monaghan, depending on the hull choice preferred. The first hull is greatly complimented by commander skills that buff the guns, survivability, and those which help Monaghan to fight other destroyers. The second hull benefits from skills boosting the power of her torpedoes, as that is the primary focus of this set-up. This allows for quite a bit of versatility in her commander skill choices.

Consumables
Monaghan can equip the following consumables:
- Slot 1: Damage Control Party
- Slot 2: Smoke Generator
- Slot 3: Engine Boost
- Slot 4: Defensive AA Fire or Torpedo Reload Booster
Captains looking to improve Monaghan's torpedo abilities should mount Torpedo Reload Booster over Defensive AA Fire. Mounting premium versions of the Damage Control Party and Smoke Generator consumables is recommended to reduce their reload time.
Camouflage
As a premium ship, Monaghan comes included with Type 10 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, reduces her repair costs, and increases the amount of experience she earns.
Signals
Monaghan is suited to signals that benefit destroyers, such as Sierra Mike and November Foxtrot. As a premium, Monaghan is also decently suited for using economic flags to earn credits and XP, but as she is only tier 6, one may want to save the flags for higher tiered ships.
