Nagato — Japanese Tier VII battleship.
The Nagato-class ships were the first battleships fully designed and built in Japan. Their 410 mm guns were developed in response to the British 381 mm ones. The ships' speed also increased compared to their predecessors. During the Pearl Harbor attack, Nagato was Admiral Yamamoto's flagship; she also participated in the Battles of Midway and the Solomon Islands. The battleship was damaged during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and after the war ended, she was transferred to the U.S. as part of reparations.

Player Opinion
Performance
Pros:
- Decent speed, impressive handling and good ergonomics for a dreadnought
- 410mm guns have fairly good accuracy and penetration, and the highest damage in her tier.
- Superior main battery range to her American and German tier counterparts
- Insane fast loading secondary batteries that have a high shell volume which may give the impression the battleship cannot be closed in upon
- Secondary batteries become dangerous when upgraded with the right Captain's Skills
- Decent rudder shift time
- Highest HP pool at her tier
Cons:
- Armor is quite weak, and citadel is quite vulnerable, though this can be mitigated by angling and good positioning
- AA suite is subpar, with most of her AA DPS being concentrated at medium range
- Despite the guns being rather accurate, the dispersion itself is sometimes wonky at long-range
- Slow gun reload time leads to one of the worst DPM in its tier, making her reliant on getting good solid hits and citadel penetrations for damage
- Torpedo protection is not so effective
- Weak armor protecting her rudder
- Fairly high detection range
Research
Nagato starts out as a slow, vulnerable ship, with quite weak armor and a nonexistent Anti-AIrcraft suite. Her guns also seem inaccurate, and unwieldy compared to the greater amount of guns American battleships have. Upgrading to her Hull B is a priority, as it not only increases her AA and torpedo protection, but gives her a huge boost in health and makes her more resilient to citadel penetrations. More importantly, it makes her guns more accurate. Her propulsion upgrade can follow next, giving a minor boost in speed that slightly increases her turning rate in a full turn and makes her more comfortable to play. Her final upgrade can then be pursued, giving her more effective AA protection.
Regarding her equipment setup, Main Armaments Modification 1 should be fitted to increase the resilience of her turrets, as the loss of one would be a major blow. Equipping Aiming Systems Modification 1 will also improve her already quite reasonable shell dispersion.
Her captain, if carried over from the ships before her, should already have either Basics of Survivability or Basic Fire Training, Expert Marksman, either Vigilance, High Alert or Superintendent, and Advanced Fire Training. If wishing to keep her, you can forgo the fifth tier Skills and pick from among the other Skills, or pick Manual Fire Control for Secondary Armament, combining it with Basic Fire Control and the Secondary Batteries Modification 2 Equipment upgrade for a dedicated close-in brawling build.
