Nagato — Japanese Tier VII battleship.

The Nagato-class ships were the first battleships fully designed and built in Japan. Their 410 mm guns were developed in response to the British 381 mm ones. The ships' speed also increased compared to their predecessors. During the Pearl Harbor attack, Nagato was Admiral Yamamoto's flagship; she also participated in the Battles of Midway and the Solomon Islands. The battleship was damaged during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and after the war ended, she was transferred to the U.S. as part of reparations.

Player Opinion

Performance

The Nagato is the end stage for all the dreadnoughts of the Japanese battleship line . Her guns changed from the 14 inch guns of the Kongo and Fuso into the mighty 16 inch guns she carries in four dual mount turrets and her handling is quite impressive for a dreadnought, enabling you to be a functional firing platform and ship of the line. She also has a very surprising secondary battery that unloads at a range not really expected for most secondary guns to fire at although her 1921 stock hull may see these guns frequently damaged and her torpedo bulge not that great, upgrading her to WWII specifications turns her into the powerful dread that is worthy to be called one of the Big Seven battleships.

As of 0.5.3, Nagato can be said as practically untouchable in close quarters with the secondary central fire control skill narrowing the shot spread of the secondaries should any enemy get into their firing range.

Pros:

  • Insane secondary batteries that have a slightly higher shell volume which may give the impression the battleship cannot be closed in upon
  • Impressive handling and speed for a dreadnought
  • Good guns, slightly better alpha, accuracy and penetration than her American tier counterpart Colorado
  • Impressive range for a dreadnought
  • Sub 10 second rudder shift time
  • High HP pool at her tier

Cons:

  • Despite the solid appearance, concentrated hails of fire WILL eventually cause really heavy damage.
  • Armor is zero; virtually no armor at all.
  • AA suite is subpar in her tier
  • Despite the guns being rather accurate, the dispersion itself is sometimes wonky at long-range
  • Abysmal gun reload time, leading to one of the worst DPM in its tier.
  • Very weak rudder, constantly gets jammed by HE shells hitting her flattop stern
  • Fairly high detection unlike her counterpart
