?The New Mexico continues with the tradition of US battleships up to this point. She's slow but armored like, well, a battleship. Her main advantage over her two tier VI battleship competitors (the Warspite and Fuso) is the layout of her main guns, she has quad triple super-firing turrets, two fore and two aft. This means that the New Mexico can face the enemy more head on than other BB's this giving the ship even better armor due to angling. Use this to close in on those opponents who out-range you while providing a small silhouette. + is the first taste of the "US Standard Battleship" type. Compared to her peers, New Mexico boast the advantage of possessing a large broadside of twelve 356 mm rifles - a feature only matched by Fuso and Lyon until Tier X - but suffers from wonky accuracy at range. To compensate that, she must get close to the enemy, and fortunately New Mexico is exceedingly proficient at short to medium range combat due to her excellent rudder and tight turning circles aided by decent concealment to surprise the enemy, but going in requires foresight and planning because of her slow speed to chase or escape. Players are well advised to be careful when positioning themselves as New Mexico can easily be caught overextended, easily taking damage if not angled properly, and her bow plating are prone to overmatch by guns 380 mm or 15 inches up.

?*Large number of main guns: she has the same number of 14 inch (356mm) guns as her Japanese tier equivalent, Fuso+* Good shell velocity.
?*High shell velocity: amazing shell velocity even with range upgrades makes aiming easier+* Very well-armored if angled properly.
?*Very thick armor: she has the thickest armor of the USN BB line with 343mm (13.5 in.) of belt armor +* Good main battery firing angles.
?*All-or nothing armor: with an all-or-nothing armor scheme that is one of the most resilient in the game and provides a large immune zone when angled+* Exceptional torpedo protection.
?*Large broadside firing arc: her firing arc allows it to minimize the broadside she shows while shooting all guns, and angle quickly after shooting+* Respectable anti-aircraft protection for Tier VI.
?*Powerful Anti-Aircraft armament: AA suite is enough to shoot down 2-3 planes before a strike occurs+* Tight turning radius for a battleship.
?*Decent torpedo defenses: effective torpedo defenses allows her to take solitary midships torpedo hits with only small permanent loss in hitpoints (after partial regeneration).+* The main battery has twelve barrels.
?*Shells have amazing penetration qualities +* Good concealment for a battleship.

 |Cons=<!-- write list of negative points below. use * as in ordinary wiki-list. --> |Cons=<!-- write list of negative points below. use * as in ordinary wiki-list. -->
?*Poor gun characteristics: much shorter range, slower reload and worse dispersion compared to Fuso, and can find herself helpless against longer ranged opponents+* Poor turret traverse.
?*Very low mobility: like the preceding American battleship New York, she is incredibly slow with only a 21kts top speed upgraded, and poor rudder shift in stock configuration+* Poor main battery accuracy.
?*Poor stock Anti-Aircraft defenses: AA on stock hull is horrible and not too much better with the B hull, and only gets good with the C hull+* Slow main battery reload.
?*All-or-nothing armor drawbacks: While her armor prevents citadel hits, it guarantees regular hits which can be problematic against other battleships of equal tier+* Weak secondary armament.
?*More guns concentrated per turret: having only 4 turrets, she loses a quarter of her firepower if a turret is knocked out+* Pedestrian speed, and even slower acceleration
?*Large and vulnerable superstructure: large superstructure makes it vulnerable to HE damage+* Large superstructure.

?Your first step in research should be the B hull. Not only does it give you additional combat capability points, WWII ammunition and a well-needed dose of AA batteries, it shortens your rudder shift time from 25.7 to 18.4 seconds (-28%) - this can be the difference between two or three impacts from a destroyer or airplane torpedo salvo. Once your survivability is in order, it's time to look at your playstyle for the next upgrades. If you find yourself lagging behind the team and not contributing to the battle due to your short stock range and low speed, upgrade the aiming system and engine first. Just be careful with enemy aircraft! If you can anticipate the turns of the battle well enough to be in range of enemies enough of the time, you can go straight for the C hull to beef up your Anti-Aircraft batteries to their final levels.+This is a suggested research path:

 +===Historical Inaccuracies===
+* New Mexico is depicted in modernized condition. Her original 1918 configuration is not represented, having been removed in a previous update.
+* Permanent camouflage represents New Mexico as she appeared in January 1942, painted in Measure 12 (modified). However, her AA should include four quadruple 1.1" guns and eight single 20mm Oerlikons. Both hull modules have fictional AA suites.
+* Aircraft catapult on turret #3 is missing.
+New Mexicos anti-aircraft defense is heavily downgraded from its historical version:
+* All of her quadruple 1.1" (28mm)/75 guns are missing. New Mexico had four in total from January 1942 to October 1943.
+* All of her quad 40mm Bofors guns are also missing. They were first fitted to New Mexico in November 1942. She had ten quad mounts in total, supplemented by another two twin mounts.
+* New Mexico had a total of 43 single 20mm Oerlikons; 40 are missing and she never carried twin mounts.
+* Hull (A) should have four 3" (76mm)/50 caliber guns as part of her AA suite.

Player Opinion

Performance

New Mexico is the first taste of the "US Standard Battleship" type. Compared to her peers, New Mexico boast the advantage of possessing a large broadside of twelve 356 mm rifles - a feature only matched by Fuso and Lyon until Tier X - but suffers from wonky accuracy at range. Players are well advised to be careful when positioning themselves as New Mexico can easily be caught overextended, easily taking damage if not angled properly, and her bow plating are prone to overmatch by guns 380 mm or 15 inches up.

Pros:

 • Good shell velocity.
 • Very well-armored if angled properly.
 • Good main battery firing angles.
 • Exceptional torpedo protection.
 • Respectable anti-aircraft protection for Tier VI.
 • Tight turning radius for a battleship.
 • The main battery has twelve barrels.
 • Good concealment for a battleship.

Cons:

 • Poor turret traverse.
 • Poor main battery accuracy.
 • Slow main battery reload.
 • Weak secondary armament.
 • Pedestrian speed, and even slower acceleration
 • Large superstructure.

 3. Gun Fire Control System Mk6 mod. 2

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

Commander Skills

Because US battleships tend to have excellent anti-aircraft suites and poor secondary batteries, captain skills which increase the defensive abilities of the ship are recommended.

Consumables

New Mexico can equip the following consumables:

Players should consider using premium consumables in the following order of priority: Damage Control Party (When activated, instantly repairs fires, floods, and incapacitations, and prevents more for the duration.), Repair Party (While active, restores a percentage of the ship's health points each second.), and Spotting Aircraft (While active, a spotter plane circles the ship enhancing main battery firing range.).

Camouflage

Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Types 2 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce the accuracy of incoming shells.

Players who wish to spend doubloons can equip New Mexico with Type 16 camouflage which reduces service costs, lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, and increases the amount of experience she earns.

Alternatively, the 2018 New Year raid campaign provided captains with the Snowy camouflage with the same bonuses as the premium.

Signals

Economic signals are left to the discretion of the player. The following recommendations are for combat signals only.
