New Orleans — American Tier VII cruiser.
Compared to her predecessor, the new cruiser had a shorter hull because of the linear arrangement of the power plant. This arrangement allowed for increased thickness of the armor belt at the waterline. USS New Orleans participated in the Battle of the Coral Sea, the Battle of Midway, then served in the campaign off the Solomon Islands. During the battle off Cape Tassafaronga, a torpedo hit caused an explosion that severed part of her bow. After repairs, the ship participated in the landings on Saipan, in the Battle of the Philippine Sea, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and the invasion of Okinawa. Over the course of the war, the ship was awarded 17 battle stars.

Player Opinion
Performance
What is basically a facemelt of the Pensacola, Northampton and Portland (which is currently represented by the tier VII premium cruiser Indianapolis), the New Orleans shows herself as a new shift in US heavy cruisers. A stocky ship, it should come as to no surprise that her armor is vastly improved from her predecessors and the guns are quite heavy which enables her to fight her peers and bigger targets most effectively and owing to her high arc, she can also potentially perform plunging fire against her peers and hopefully against battleships provided that the deck is thin enough for the shells to punch through. Its also a welcome relief to find her to be able to equip the radar surveillance consumable so she can hunt down any destroyer lurking in the smoke with utmost efficiency and her ergonomics won't lose against the likes of Mogami and Atago, giving her plenty of room to move.
However, she's not infallible and concentrated fire will send her down as well as her weak rear superstructure can cause heavy damage or even outright citadel hits.
Move fast and plan your moves well as a supporting ship that can shift to aggressive tones later on in the match and you will find New Orleans to be a stalwart cruiser befitting a gun oriented player in cruisers.
Pros:
- Faster firing high caliber guns
- Improved response time
- Good ergonomics
- Improved turret armor and mounts
Cons:
- What feels like a souped up Pensacola at tier 8
- AB-X turret layout may feel like a downgrade compared to Pensacola's AB-XY
- Armor must to be angled to be effective
