New York — American Tier V battleship.
As the gun caliber on British dreadnoughts grew in size, a decision was made to equip new American battleships with ten 356 mm guns. The ships were also outfitted with triple-expansion steam engines. Promptly after her entry into service, USS New York participated in the occupation of Veracruz. Following the United States' entry into World War I, USS New York was designated as the flagship of Battleship Division 9 stationed at Scapa Flow. During World War II, USS New York escorted convoys and supported troop landings in North Africa, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa.

Player Opinion
Performance
The first USN superdreadnought, the New York is a substantial firepower upgrade from the Wyoming with ten 14" main guns. These guns can penetrate most targets within two tiers of you. The New York is a very short battleship at 573' and, combined with better accuracy than its predecessor, this concentration of firepower means you are a very dangerous target to broadside at short-to-medium range. The midships turret has a very limited engagement arc to either side and usually has to be brought to bear by turning the hull. In terms of protection you are heavily and reliably armored against lateral fire but your deck armor is ineffective against most BB rounds you will meet, so long-range duels and exposure are to be avoided at all costs.
Pros:
- Heavily armed with 10x14" guns in five twin turrets
- Compact and well armored
- Upgraded AA is significant for tier and a major hazard to Tier IV carriers
- Much more heavily armored and armed than her Japanese counterpart.
Cons:
- Glacially slow and immobile in stock configuration
- Stock hull reverts from elite WWII Wyoming to WWI era including ineffective AA
- Worse strategic mobility and range compared to Kongo even when upgraded
- Torpedoes are almost a death sentence as the magazines are all along the hull, which leaves a very high chance of detonations.
- Poor stock gun penetration
- Very narrow full salvo firing arc, which means you'd have to either show your broadside or don't even bother using 3rd turret
Research
The stock engines are unusable and will leave you trailing dangerously behind even American Standard battlelines so pursue that upgrade immediately. Afterwards, the hull (the class' WWII refit) is a comprehensive improvement that is much more important to the ship than better fire control.
