?|This ship was a proposed 'large' destroyer (or destroyer leader) during the late part of World War I and Post-war. The Bureau of Construction and Repair began to consider these designs in 1917. One influence were letters written by Captain H.P. Huse suggesting the merger of light cruiser and destroyer types, an idea which had much merit and was put forth often in that particular period.+

?First sketches were of 'flush deckers' armed with either six 5" guns and two triple Torpedo Tubes, or four 5" guns and four Torpedo Tubes. The ultimate design (February 1919), was a 2,200-ton boat mounting five 5" guns on the centerline with twelve Torpedo Tubes mounted on the wings.<br />+

?After an extensive search, the 'class' name of Nicholas produced no results whatsoever in relation to the 1919 Destroyer Leader. As such, one can only ascertain this was a 'placeholder' name. Should the development team ever seek to properly name this particular class, it would be suggested they use 'Huse'.+
