Whereas Sinop and above use 406mm guns, culminating with Kremlins massive 457mm armaments, Poltava uses 3x3 356mm rifles - the same caliber used in Tier 6 by techtree Soviet battleship Izmail. For Tier 7, this is a rather underwhelming caliber as it is unable to overmatch 25mm of armor with AP, a frustrating limitation when considering that most higher tier ships have 25mm or thicker common plating, such as bows/afts. The turrets are also less armored compared to the ones used by techtree Soviet battleships, making them easier to disable or outright destroy. That said, Poltava still enjoys rather decent HE shells with a good fire chance, as well as excellent AP penetration and shell velocity, among the best in the game for its gun caliber.

?PERFORMANCE SECTION GUIDELINES
?1. Write a brief intro paragraph of 1-3 sentences.
?2. Write 1-3 paragraphs of "meat". Talk about what the ship does well, what it doesn't, how it compares to same tier ships of the same type, how it compares to the previous ship in the tech tree, whatever. Try to avoid quoting vital statistics to players unless it is really relevant (i.e. concealment); they can see those in the sidebar on the right and don't need them read back.
?3. Write a brief summary paragraph of 1-3 sentences highlighting the key takeaways from the paragraphs above.
?-->
? Poltava is a premium tier 7 Russian battleship that takes several departures from her tech tree peer, Sinop. While armor remains roughly the same, with 25mm of armor covering most of the deck and a vulnerable citadel, the primary difference lies in her main battery armament. Poltava has 3x3 356mm main battery guns, as opposed to Sinop’s 3x3 406mm guns. This means that Poltava cannot overmatch 25mm of armor and cannot deal with bow-on enemy battleships at her tier as easily. Additionally, her turrets have less side armor and get disabled much more easily, so the Preventative Maintenance captain skill and Main Armaments Modification 1 upgrade are both heavily recommended. In exchange for these downgrades, Poltava’s guns gains better dispersion at long ranges compared to Sinop’s.
? Poltava is also 2 knots faster than Sinop, for a base speed of 29 knots. With better concealment, Poltava can avoid detection for longer and get into better positions to catch enemy cruisers by surprise, as well as reposition throughout the match. Like the other Russian battleships, Poltava has an enhanced Damage Control Party consumable cooldown with limited charges and an exposed citadel, so captains should take care to avoid showing too much broadside, as the vulnerable citadel can be exploited by enemy battleships.
 |Pros=<!-- write list of positive points below. use * as in ordinary wiki-list. --> |Pros=<!-- write list of positive points below. use * as in ordinary wiki-list. -->
?* Better AA than Sinop+* Some of the best 356mm guns in the game in terms of AP penetration and muzzle velocity
?* 29 knots top speed+* Good HE shell fire chance
?* Good firing arcs +* Better than average reload speed at 28 seconds
?* Damage Control Party consumable has a fast cooldown of 40 seconds with premium consumable+* Good top speed of 29 knots and fairly quick rudder shift for a battleship
+* Has an "icebreaker" bow above the waterline as additional protection when bow-on
+* Same short cooldown Damage Control Party as tech-tree Soviet battleships
 +* Good concealment

 |Cons=<!-- write list of negative points below. use * as in ordinary wiki-list. --> |Cons=<!-- write list of negative points below. use * as in ordinary wiki-list. -->
?* Exposed citadel makes Poltava very vulnerable if she is caught with her broadside towards enemy battleships+* The citadel sits above the waterline, making Poltava very vulnerable when caught broadside
?* Main battery is 356mm as opposed to Sinop's 406mm, which means it cannot overmatch 25mm armor+* Small gun caliber for its tier, cannot overmatch 25mm of armor
?* Main battery guns are squishy than Sinop (side armor of turrets is 240 as opposed to 400mm found on Sinop)+* Gunnery can be frustrating at times due to low sigma (1.7)
?* Damage Control Party consumable has limited charges+* Sluggish turret traverse speed
+* Damage Control Party has limited charges, it's entirely possible to run out if mishandled
 +* Enormous turning circle
+* Different playstyle compared to techtree Soviet battleships, can take some time to adjust

Pros:

 • Some of the best 356mm guns in the game in terms of AP penetration and muzzle velocity
 • Good HE shell fire chance
 • Better than average reload speed at 28 seconds
 • Good top speed of 29 knots and fairly quick rudder shift for a battleship
 • Has an "icebreaker" bow above the waterline as additional protection when bow-on
 • Same short cooldown Damage Control PartyWhen activated, instantly repairs fires, floods, and incapacitations, and prevents more for the duration. as tech-tree Soviet battleships
 • Good concealment

Cons:

 • The citadel sits above the waterline, making Poltava very vulnerable when caught broadside
 • Small gun caliber for its tier, cannot overmatch 25mm of armor
 • Gunnery can be frustrating at times due to low sigma (1.7)
 • Sluggish turret traverse speed
 • Damage Control PartyWhen activated, instantly repairs fires, floods, and incapacitations, and prevents more for the duration. has limited charges, it's entirely possible to run out if mishandled
 • Enormous turning circle
 • Different playstyle compared to techtree Soviet battleships, can take some time to adjust

Research

As a premium ship, Poltava doesn't have any upgrades to research.

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

The recommended upgrades for Poltava are as follows:

Commander Skills

Consumables

Poltava can equip the following consumables:

Camouflage

As a premium ship, Poltava comes with Default permanent camouflage and a set of permanent combat bonuses.

Signals

As with most battleships, players should focus on utilizing signals that maximize their survivability such as India Delta, Juliet Yankee Bissowtwo, and India Yankee

Note: Use of the Juliet Charlie signal makes detonation impossible.
