Player Opinion
Performance
Poltava is a premium tier 7 Russian battleship that takes several departures from her tech tree peer, Sinop. While armor remains roughly the same, with 25mm of armor covering most of the deck and a vulnerable citadel, the primary difference lies in her main battery armament. Poltava has 3x3 356mm main battery guns, as opposed to Sinop’s 3x3 406mm guns. This means that Poltava cannot overmatch 25mm of armor and cannot deal with bow-on enemy battleships at her tier as easily. Additionally, her turrets have less side armor and get disabled much more easily, so the Preventative Maintenance captain skill and Main Armaments Modification 1 upgrade are both heavily recommended. In exchange for these downgrades, Poltava’s guns gains better dispersion at long ranges compared to Sinop’s.
Poltava is also 2 knots faster than Sinop, for a base speed of 29 knots. With better concealment, Poltava can avoid detection for longer and get into better positions to catch enemy cruisers by surprise, as well as reposition throughout the match. Like the other Russian battleships, Poltava has an enhanced Damage Control Party consumable cooldown with limited charges and an exposed citadel, so captains should take care to avoid showing too much broadside, as the vulnerable citadel can be exploited by enemy battleships.Pros:
- Better AA than Sinop.
- 29 knots top speed.
- Good firing arcs .
- Damage Control Party consumable has a fast cooldown of 40 seconds with premium consumable.
Cons:
- Exposed citadel makes Poltava very vulnerable if she is caught with her broadside towards enemy battleships.
- Main battery is 356mm as opposed to Sinop's 406mm, which means it cannot overmatch 25mm armor.
- Main battery guns are squishy than Sinop (side armor of turrets is 240 as opposed to 400mm found on Sinop).
- Damage Control Party consumable has limited charges.
