+Tier V Italian light cruiser ''Raimondo Montecuccoli'' has average artillery, adequate torpedoes, and good maneuverability.
+The ship's eight (8) 152mm guns are arranged in four (4) twin turrets. She has a very long reload for a mid-tier cruiser (14.2 seconds) and sluggish turret traverse (taking 30 seconds to turn 180 degrees). The latter can be somewhat offset using upgrades and skills.

?Tier 5 Italian cruiser ''Raimondo Montecuccoli'' is moderately similar to its Tier 6 Premium cousin, ''[[Duca d'Aosta]]''. Much like other Italian cruisers in the mid-tier range, the ship boasts acceptable artillery, decent torpedoes, abysmal armor, and solid maneuverability. +''Montecuccoli’s'' primary ammunition choice will be her [[Ship:Ammo#SAP_shells|semi-armor-piercing]] (SAP) shells, only switching to her AP shells when a target is in close proximity and broadside. SAP shells excel at damaging lightly armored targets of which there are many in ''Montecuccoli’s'' matchmaking range. Her ammunition will have trouble penetrating some higher-tier battleships and those with thick external armor plating.

?The ship's 152mm guns are arranged in generally the same format of the ''Duca D'Aosta'', with 8 cannons in 4 turrets. However ''Montecuccoli'' has a significantly worse reload speed and abysmal turret traverse. The latter issue can be negated somewhat through the use of ship upgrades and commander skills. Most of the time, a commander will find himself exclusively using SAP shells unless a ship is in close proximity and broadsiding, in which AP will suffice in dealing solid damage. There may be trouble penetrating higher-tier battleships, but there won't usually be an issue with cruisers and almost never an issue dealing damage to destroyers. +''Montecuccoli'' is armed with a pair of twin torpedo launchers, one on either side of her midsection. They have great launching angles to the fore and rear but are not to be considered a primary weapon. They have a 10km range but a speed of only 51 knots, which makes them a weapon of opportunity at best. With a 55 second reload, captains can at least have a set in the water at all times. Do note that these torpedoes have relatively low Alpha (12,667 apiece) so torpedo rushing a target via Exhaust Smoke is not recommended.

?The torpedoes on ''Montecuccoli'' are less of an offensive tool and more of a way of punishing unwary enemies. With a slow speed of only 51 knots but a range of 10 km, captains may be pleasantly surprised to launch torpedoes, sail away, then score an unsuspecting kill on an equally unsuspecting enemy ship. With a 55 second reload and only 4 tubes, one should not try to use these in truly offensive actions. +As a Tier 5 light cruiser the armor on ''Montecuccoli'' is thin and not to be relied upon. Spaced 60mm side plating over a 30mm citadel affords little protection beyond ensuring she will not be citadeled by HE and battleship caliber SAP shells as they detonate on contact. Combined with her hitpoint pool of 26,500 her overall durability is rather low.

?The AA on the ship is decent enough, capable of holding its own against enemy planes, especially if the captain has the fighter aircraft consumable in cooperation with the AA.+Where ''Montecuccoli'' excels is her maneuverability. She has a maximum speed of 37 knots (38.9 with a Sierra Mike signal) making her one of the fastest Tier V cruisers. Her rudder shift time is average, but her tight turning circle of 610m helps her to evade incoming fire.
+''Montecuccoli'' will out-spot most of her counterparts due to her base concealment of 11.62km (10.14km with full upgrades).

?Where ''Montecuccoli'' shines is her maneuverability. Owing to the ship's motto ''Con risolutezza, con rapidità'' (Resolute and Rapid), she has a max speed of 37 knots, the second fastest Tier 5 cruiser (''Émile Bertin'' has a max speed of 39). This partly makes up for the lack of armor, since the ship's speed ''is'' its armor. The rudder shift time is excellent, and with both of these combined the ship has good maneuverability, allowing it to strike fast, dodge enemy shells and torpedoes, and escape from harm at a whim.+'''Recommended play style:'''
? +''Montecuccoli’s'' speed and tight turning circle are her primary means of defense and avoiding damage. Focus fire destroyers and cruisers with SAP shells while avoiding close proximity with enemy battleships. Note: SAP shells will shatter on contact with armor plates 43mm and thicker, so aim for superstructure and upper belt areas of larger targets. Head to a flank and use your exhaust smoke to turn around if pressure mounts. Players will need time to deal damage as the inability to light fires makes dealing with battleships difficult.
?''Montecuccoli'' fits the glass cannon archetype of Italian cruisers. Captains will have a difficult time learning how to sail this ship, but as long as she stays relatively close to other ships to make up for her lack of armor, she can harass, and if one is diligent, sink, enemy ships with her SAP shells and torpedoes. Just don't show anything resembling broadside to enemies, or one is bound to be sent to the bottom of the ocean. +

Research

Availability of researchable upgrades for Raimondo Montecuccoli is as follows:

  • Hull: Upgrade to Hull (B) for more hit points, better AA and faster rudder shift time. Research of this module unlocks progression to Tier VI Trento.
  • Gun Fire Control System: Upgrade to SDT 5 mod. 2 for an extra 10% range on the main battery.

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

The recommended upgrades are:

Commander Skills

Consumables

Raimondo Montecuccoli can equip the following consumables:

Camouflage

Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Types 1 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce detectability range.

Signals

Note: Use of the Juliet Charlie signal makes detonation impossible.
