Renown '44 — British special premium Tier VII battleship.

A fast battlecruiser armed with guns similar to those found on Queen Elizabeth-class battleships. In the 1930s, the ship underwent a major upgrade to reinforce her armor protection system and AA defenses.

Renown '44 was first released as the Stage 19 reward in the Hamburg Dockyard on 07 December 2022.

Being an uptiered, modernized variant of Tier VI Renown, Tier VII Renown '44 retains her counterpart’s familiar gameplay of a typical battlecruiser — weak armor, high speed, and accurate guns. Renown '44 also provides unique twists in the playstyle with her consumables and armaments.


Renown '44 has an almost identical armor scheme compared to her lower-tiered clone, which will struggle to hold up at her tier spread. Her thin 229 mm belt will be penetrated by almost any battleship she comes across. Her large, thinly armored superstructure allows small-caliber ships to easily deal damage. Her HP pool is identical to Renown. At 55,200, she has one of the lowest at her tier. In addition, her torpedo belt protection is abysmal at 13%, making torpedoes a significant threat. However, Renown '44 features improved plating unlike Renown, at 26 mm compared to 16 mm of the latter. This prevents overmatch from calibers of 356 mm or less. Her deck armor is also 29 mm, preventing overmatch from 410 mm guns and under. Despite these improvements, Renown '44 should not rely upon her armor to survive.

As a battlecruiser, Renown '44’s speed and concealment are her keys to survival. Her top speed of 30 knots, combined with her Engine BoostWhile active, increases a ship's speed by a fixed percentage., allow her to take positions quickly, and reposition as needed. Her superb surface concealment also aids in this regard, with 11.5 km detection when fully specced. However, her long hull gives her lackluster maneuverability, with an 840 m turning circle and 14.3 s rudder shift. Captains should take care not to get caught off-guard, or they will most likely be unable to react without taking heavy damage.


Like Renown, Renown '44 sports an identical configuration of 381 mm guns, in three dual mounts, but with noteworthy changes in their characteristics. Notably, they retain the signature battlecruiser dispersion, but have 2.0 sigma. This means her shells will fly true provided one is on-point with their aim. Her guns also have a reduced reload at 25 seconds, allowing her to consistently deal damage. Akin to Renown, Renown '44’s has access to short fuse AP shells, which reduces the frequency of over penetrations on ships with light armor. Her HE shells are standard, unlike those of typical British battleships, and should only be used against heavily angled targets. Finally, her gun handling is decent, with good firing angles and acceptable gun traverse. Her one major downside to her guns is their range. At 16.9 km, Renown '44 needs to be close to engage targets.

Renown '44 carries a surprisingly potent secondary suite. Her secondaries consist of 10 twin 113 mm guns. With their fast reload, they boast the best secondary DPM of all Tier VII battleships. They also have similar accuracy to the famous German battlecruisers, making them a useful tool against targets at close-range. However, their lack of improved range and poor penetration of 19 mm prevents them from reaching their full potential. Thus, captains should not build into them.

Renown '44’s torpedoes are also a useful tool in combat. Their 10 km range allows them to be used as area denial and hit ships at range. Thanks to the Torpedo turning mechanic, they also have wide firing angles. With four torpedoes per side and a good alpha damage of 15,867, they can heavily cripple or destroy ships provided all of them hit. However, they have a slow traverse speed, so captains should pre-aim the torpedo reticle when forced into close range combat.

Renown '44’s overall AA defenses are poor. While her close-range AA is high, this will only help against aircraft inside its short range. With her other AA values being weak, captains should rely on assistance to repel enemy aircraft.

Renown '44 carries standard Depth Charge Airstrikes for a Tier VII battleship. She has access to two charges of the armament with 8 km range and 30 second reload. Each charge has one aircraft armed with one bomb dealing 3,400 damage.


In addition to her armaments, Renown '44 carries a unique consumable suite. While her Damage Control PartyWhen activated, instantly repairs fires, floods, and incapacitations, and prevents more for the duration. is standard, her Repair PartyWhile active, restores a percentage of the ship's health points each second. features half the cooldown of standard ones, prolonging her life in a match. Her Engine BoostWhile active, increases a ship's speed by a fixed percentage. will aid in her already great speed, helping captains to quickly reach a point on the map. Finally, she has the option to take either Defensive AA FireWhile active, the damage per second of large caliber anti-aircraft guns is increased. or Hydroacoustic SearchWhile active, detects all enemy ships and torpedoes within the specified radius, without regard of obstacles such as smoke and terrain.. Like most battlecruisers, Renown '44’s ideal position is on the flank. She is a support ship, assisting her team by creating crossfires against enemy ships. Using her speed, she can quickly respond to changes in the battle, as well as her concealment allowing her to either take strategic positions or disengage under fire. Renown '44’s short gun range means she has to get close to deal damage, however, and her armor will not allow her to survive under heavy focus fire. If forced into close-range, her torpedoes will be of use, delivering a heavy blow to enemy ships, while her secondaries can also be of assistance with their rate of fire and accuracy.

Renown '44 provides the classic battlecruiser gameplay, but sets herself apart with her unique capabilities. Captains familiar with the playstyle will find her an excellent ship, who is quite capable in the right hands.
