?PERFORMANCE SECTION GUIDELINES
?1. Write a brief intro paragraph of 1-3 sentences.
?2. Write 1-3 paragraphs of "meat". Talk about what the ship does well, what it doesn't, how it compares to same tier ships of the same type, how it compares to the previous ship in the tech tree, whatever. Try to avoid quoting vital statistics to players unless it is really relevant (i.e. concealment); they can see those in the sidebar on the right and don't need them read back.
?3. Write a brief summary paragraph of 1-3 sentences highlighting the key takeaways from the paragraphs above.

+ improves upon Tátra with additional firepower that includes one more main gun and two more torpedo tubes. While her agility is an improvement over the previous tier, her lack of concealment, thin armor and substandard guns relegates her to supporting at range with her torpedoes.<br />
 +
 +Speed<br />
+As with most Tier III destroyers, has great speed and rudder shift that allow for the characteristic stern “flick” in response to helm commands. Like most of her peers, she has decent acceleration, although not as good as Valkyrie. With her compact turning radius, she can avoid bot-ramming that still occurs at this tier and weave through torpedo salvos with ease.<br />
 +
 +Concealment<br />
+ is the smallest Tier III destroyer, just 80 m long. One might think this would make her particularly stealthy, but her surface concealment is only slightly better than average. However, she has excellent aerial concealment, and can easily avoid getting spotted by enemy aircraft.<br />
 +
 +Armor<br />
+Even with the upgraded hull, still only has the 6 mm plating that holds her together to stay in the action. She also has the lowest HP of any Tier III destroyer, and even less than many Tier II destroyers. She should not be brawling. Instead, captains should stay at a safe distance, using her 8 km torpedo range to overwhelm targets and deny areas.<br />
 +
 +Main Battery<br />
+In her stock configuration, gets an additional rear gun of the same caliber as Tátra arranged in an A-XY profile. She has poor forward firing angles, so she will need to expose at least 50 degrees of broadside to get all three turrets on target. Upgrading to the 120 mm Bofors reduces this angle to 41 degrees, but increases reload and thus reduces DPM while maintaining the same slow 18-second turret traverse. As with Tátra, returning fire is cumbersome if engaged in evasive maneuvers.<br />
 +
 +Torpedoes<br />
+The 450 mm torpedo tubes located midship towards the stern have a rather different arrangement - the first launcher has two torpedoes while the second has four. is the only Tier III destroyer to feature a quadruple launcher. These torpedoes should feel familiar as they are the same upgraded ones carried by her predecessor Tátra. However, their firing angles are reduced by almost half. To compensate for the narrow firing angles, captains should launch them while still at range to avoid exposing her weak hull to opposing team gunfire. As these torpedoes have a very high detection range, do not be surprised if ships are able to avoid them.<br />
 +
 +Consumables<br />
+ has access to the standard Damage Control Party and Engine Boost consumables available to most of her peers. Unlike most other destroyers, she does not have a Smoke Generator.<br />
 +
 +Summary<br />
+Much like her Tier II counterpart, does well at range supporting the main lines with her torpedoes. She can engage from there with her main guns, but choose targets wisely to stay concealed. Captains should stay clear of direct engagements with enemy destroyers as she lacks the health or turret traverse to engage them directly. Instead, use her torpedoes more for deterrence and area denial. She will reward a patient playstyle just as much as she will punish an overly aggressive one.<br />

 +
+The Italian torpedo boat Spica was the lead ship of a class of 32, built to exploit a loophole in the London Naval Treaty by which torpedo boats of 600 tons or less standard displacement could be built in unlimited numbers. Italy attempted to build torpedo boats within this limit that would be nearly as powerful as destroyers. Like most Italian ships, the treaty displacement limits were deliberately exceeded. As built her actual standard displacement was 638 tons, and it was soon increased in refits to 780 tons. Most of sister ships had standard displacement in the range of 775-785 tons.
 +
+Originally the armament consisted of 3 single 100mm/47 OTO main guns, 4 single 450mm torpedo tubes, 2 twin 40mm/39 Vickers-Terni and 2 twin 13.2mm/76 Breda AA guns. In 1939 the single torpedo tubes were replaced by 2 twin 450mm tubes in line with later ships of the class, and the original AA armament was replaced by 6 twin 20mm/65 Breda autocannons.
 +
+In 1940, the first two ships of the class, Spica and Astore, were sold to Sweden and renamed Romulus and Remus (names reflecting their Italian origin). In Swedish service, rather than torpedo boats they were designated as coastal destroyers. In 1953 they were re-designated as frigates, with 1 100mm gun and both torpedo launchers removed and a British-made Squid anti-submarine rocket launcher installed in their place, along with radar and sonar equipment.
 +
 +===Historical Inaccuracies===
+* As the Italian Spica, she was armed initially with 4 single 450mm torpedo tubes and later upgraded to 2 twin 450mm tubes prior to sale to Sweden as Romulus. In neither Italian nor Swedish service did she ever have an armament of 1 twin and 1 quad launcher.
+* At no point did Romulus have her 100mm OTO guns replaced with 120mm Bofors.

Player Opinion

Performance

Romulus improves upon Tátra with additional firepower that includes one more main gun and two more torpedo tubes. While her agility is an improvement over the previous tier, her lack of concealment, thin armor and substandard guns relegates her to supporting at range with her torpedoes.

Speed
As with most Tier III destroyers, Romulus has great speed and rudder shift that allow for the characteristic stern “flick” in response to helm commands. Like most of her peers, she has decent acceleration, although not as good as Valkyrie. With her compact turning radius, she can avoid bot-ramming that still occurs at this tier and weave through torpedo salvos with ease.

Concealment
Romulus is the smallest Tier III destroyer, just 80 m long. One might think this would make her particularly stealthy, but her surface concealment is only slightly better than average. However, she has excellent aerial concealment, and can easily avoid getting spotted by enemy aircraft.

Armor
Even with the upgraded hull, Romulus still only has the 6 mm plating that holds her together to stay in the action. She also has the lowest HP of any Tier III destroyer, and even less than many Tier II destroyers. She should not be brawling. Instead, captains should stay at a safe distance, using her 8 km torpedo range to overwhelm targets and deny areas.

Main Battery
In her stock configuration, Romulus gets an additional rear gun of the same caliber as Tátra arranged in an A-XY profile. As with Tátra, returning fire is cumbersome if engaged in evasive maneuvers.

Torpedoes
The 450 mm torpedo tubes located midship towards the stern have a rather different arrangement - the first launcher has two torpedoes while the second has four. Romulus is the only Tier III destroyer to feature a quadruple launcher. These torpedoes should feel familiar as they are the same upgraded ones carried by her predecessor Tátra. However, their firing angles are reduced by almost half. To compensate for the narrow firing angles, captains should launch them while still at range to avoid exposing her weak hull to opposing team gunfire. As these torpedoes have a very high detection range, do not be surprised if ships are able to avoid them.

Consumables
Romulus has access to the standard Damage Control Party and Engine Boost consumables available to most of her peers. Unlike most other destroyers, she does not have a Smoke Generator.

Summary

Much like her Tier II counterpart, Romulus does well at range supporting the main lines with her torpedoes. She can engage from there with her main guns, but choose targets wisely to stay concealed. Captains should stay clear of direct engagements with enemy destroyers as she lacks the health or turret traverse to engage them directly. Instead, use her torpedoes more for deterrence and area denial. She will reward a patient playstyle just as much as she will punish an overly aggressive one.

Pros:

 • Decent rudder shift.
 • Quad torpedo launcher.
 • Torpedo speed near top of tier.
 • Good torpedo range.
 • Decent surface concealment and excellent aerial concealment.

Cons:

 • Lowest HP in tier.
 • Paper thin armor all over.
 • Slow main turret rotation and rate of fire.
 • Lowest torpedo damage of all Tier II–III destroyers.
 • Torpedoes have high detection and long reaction times.
 • Substandard torpedo spread angles.
 • No Smoke Generator consumable.

Research

Romulus has three upgraded modules to choose from. Captains should first invest in the upgraded Hull (B) option to increase health, decrease rudder shift time.
