?As part of three armored cruisers authorized to be constructed in the early 1900s, the USS ''St. Louis'' (C-20) was initially constructed as an improved version of the ''Columbia''-class cruiser. However, initial design decisions led her to have an increase in size and weight, from 6000 tons to 9700 tons - the same weight as a fully armored cruiser but without similar armor or armament. The ''St. Louis'' was intended to be outfitted with 203mm, increased speed, cruising range, and armor, but was completed with 152mm cannons, a larger power plant, and extra fuel capacity. Due to this mishmash of improvements, the ''St. Louis''-class cruisers were considered as semi-armored cruisers, in between the class of protected cruisers and armored cruisers. But at the time, the ''Register of Ships of the US Navy'' listed them as "protected cruisers." The ''St. Louis''-class cruisers were decommissioned in early 1920s and sold for scrap in 1930 as per the London Naval Treaty.+<div class="thumb tright">

 +====Service====
+USS ''St. Louis'' was the lead ship of her class of protected cruisers. Laid down on 31 July 31 1902 and launched on 4 May 1905, she spent until August 1906 fitting out and was then commissioned into service. She was designated as "C-20", the 20th protected cruiser of the United States Navy.
 +
+The first ten years of her career ''St. Louis'' spent in the Pacific, where she served multiple purposes. The first six years she was a training ship; in 1914, she was designated as a receiving ship for new cadets to live on. Two years later, in 1916, she was used as a submarine support ship.
 +
+With the entrance of the US into World War I in 1917, ''St. Louis'' was sent to the Atlantic to serve as an escort and transport vessel. After the armistice and subsequent end of the war, she transported numerous American soldiers back home from Europe. After being re-numbered as "CA-18" in July 1920, she departed for the Mediterranean as there was a great turmoil in Turkey, and the Civil War in Russia was still raging on. ''St. Louis'' returned from this mission in 1921.
 +
+''St. Louis'' was decommissioned on 3 March 1922, and served as a reserve ship for the next eight years. The London Naval Treaty of 1930 put limits onto the total tonnage of cruisers that the treaty nations were permitted; as a result, older ships and reserve vessels were selected for disposal. In August 1930, ''St. Louis'' and her sister ships were sold for scrap.

St. Louis is one of the few cruisers that can take on an equal Tier battleship on relatively even terms (especially the underpowered South Carolina). It can even prove a threat to the Tier IV ships.

Research

This is a suggested research path:

  2. 152 mm/50 Mk6 main batteries mod. 2
  3. Mk3 FCS mod. 2

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

The recommended upgrades for St. Louis are as follows:

Commander Skills

Consumables

As a Tier III USN cruiser, St. Louis has access to only Damage Control PartyWhen activated, instantly repairs fires, floods, and incapacitations, and prevents more for the duration..

Camouflage

The St. Louis is one of the 3 tier III ships to have a premium camouflage known as "Igor", the Halloween variant of the St. Louis, which was available for limited time through Halloween crates earned from the Scenario "Sunray in the Darkness" and through the Premium shop.

Signals

As a Tier III ship, it is highly recommended to save signals for use in the later tiers. But should the player have a surplus and enjoy playing this ship, they should utilize the following recommended signals.

Note: Use of the Juliet Charlie signal makes detonation impossible.
