Surrey — British Tier VII cruiser.
A cruiser named Surrey was initially meant to be the third Norfolk-class ship. But it was the fourth series of cruisers scheduled for construction as part of the 1928 program that eventually received that name. Unlike their predecessors, these ships had proper belt armor and were supposed to enter service in 1932. In the lead-up to the London Naval Conference, the laying down of ships was suspended and later canceled due to the changing priorities of the British Navy.

Player Opinion
Performance
Pros:
- Good turret traverse and main gun accuracy, in ABXY layout with decent firing arcs. She can often get 100% of her firepower on-target in the time allotted between reloads and evasion.
- Decent AA rating for her tier, especially when combined with the Defensive AA consumable and companion signal.
- Good concealment, compared to her tier.
- Good turret traverse - Expert Marksman not necessary most of the time, unless switching firing sides.
- Average HP, firing range, and muzzle velocity.
Cons:
- Short-ranged torpedoes, capable of reaching 70% of her stock detection range.
- Slow and sluggish, compared to most tier VII cruisers.
- Slower reload than average, though way better than Italian cruisers.
- Relatively poor fire-starting chance (but she does have HE, as opposed to the British CL line.)
Research
Availability of researchable upgrades for Surrey is as follows:
- Hull: Upgrade to Hull (B) for more hit points, better AA and faster rudder shift time. Research of this module unlocks progression to Albemarle.
- Gun Fire Control System: Upgrade to Mk7 mod. 2 for an extra 10% range on the main battery.
Optimal Configuration
Upgrades
- Slot 1: Main Armaments Modification 1 by default, OR Magazine Modification 1 if you don't like magazine deletions, OR Spotting Aircraft Modification 1 special upgrade to extend spotting aircraft time aloft.
- Slot 2: Captain's choice based on personal preference.
- Slot 3: Aiming Systems Modification 1 by default. Those captains wishing to punish incoming aircraft could leverage AA Guns Modification 1 for improved damage without sacrificing much on main gun accuracy, if they so wish.
- Slot 4: Propulsion Modification 1 () or Steering Gears Modification 2
Commander Skills
Preference for commander skills is always based on personal play style, but, as with most cruisers, captains should focus on evasion, concealment, and other commander skills that reduce the chance/effects of incoming damage on performance.

Signals
Captain's should definitely opt for India Delta to maximize repair party effects. As with most cruisers, remaining selection is based on personal preference / inventory, but signals specific to secondaries, torpedoes, damage control, or ramming should be avoided.Gallery
