?First available during the World of Warships Closed Beta Test as a pre-order, ''Yūbari'' is a fairly mediocre Japanese cruiser for Tier IV. She compliments her slow-turning turrets with a pair of twin-tube torpedo launchers with a 6km range. Compared to all of her Tier IV counterparts, ''Yūbari'' has the lowest detectability range of all: just under 10km. Where ''Yūbari'' really lacks, however, are her guns. With only 140mm diameter the shells are quite small and can have a hard time penetrating other cruisers.+Tier IV Japanese light cruiser ''{{#var:ship_name}}'' is an interesting departure from other cruisers at tier. She has an okay health pool, though not nearly as good as Tier III ''Katori''. She has the same slow turrets of all IJN low-tier cruisers, and at Tier IV the 140mm rifles do not show up well against the better armored ships at the tier. Consider them adequate and lament that she has only four rifles. The armament that would shine if it could is her 610mm torpedoes that are faster and much harder hitting than older models. Unfortunately, with a 6km range, only two tubes per side, and narrow firing angles, they are dangerous to employ offensively. To offset this, though, ''Yūbari'' has the lowest detectability range of all Tier IV cruisers: 9.6km.

Player Opinion

Performance

Tier IV Japanese light cruiser Yūbari is an interesting departure from other cruisers at tier. She has an okay health pool, though not nearly as good as Tier III Katori. To offset this, though, Yūbari has the lowest detectability range of all Tier IV cruisers: 9.6km.

Yūbari can equip the legendary Aiming Systems Modification 0 (Increases the firing accuracy of the main battery and secondary battery, accelerates the traverse speed of torpedo tubes and the main battery, and extends the firing range of the secondary battery: +20% main battery traverse speed. / -40% main battery dispersion. / +20% torpedo tubes traverse speed. / +20% secondary battery firing range. / -40% secondary battery dispersion.) — one of only three ships that can do so[1] — for large buffs to all main and secondary armament (except AA).

A surprising feature of the ship is Yūbari's anti-aircraft capability. While it can hardly be said to be "good" it is the best of any Tier IV cruiser save Giussano, and better than most Tier Vs. In addition to her base AA firepower, she equips Defensive AA Fire (While active, the damage per second of large caliber anti-aircraft guns is increased.) for a couple of extra punches. She is among the fastest and most maneuverable of the Tier IV cruisers — good for dodging.

Yūbari can be played as a gunship, but that is not her main strength. She plays more like an IJN torpedo destroyer. Read the situation and employ the appropriate weapon and you will find in her a good deal of fun.

Pros:

  • Premium experience, credit-earning, and commander training.
  • Fast, hard hitting torpedoes.
  • Excellent detection range.
  • Destroyer-like rudder shift time and mobility.
  • The AA suite is remarkably good for a Tier IV cruiser.
  • Lowest tier ship in the game to have access to the Defensive AA Fire (While active, the damage per second of large caliber anti-aircraft guns is increased.) consumable.

Cons:

  • 4,000-6,000 less HP than most same-tier cruisers.
  • Mediocre gun performance (slow traverse, high arc, low DPM, and penetration).
  • Only 2 turrets (four rifles).
  • Very narrow torpedo launch angle.
  • Little armor and fragile modules, similar to a destroyer with a citadel.
  • Large and unarmored citadel.
  • Defensive AA Fire (While active, the damage per second of large caliber anti-aircraft guns is increased.) consumable only has two charges (three with Superintendent skill).

Research

As a premium ship, Yūbari doesn't have any upgrades to research.

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

The recommended upgrades for Yūbari are as follows:

Commander Skills

The skill recommendations here are particular to Yūbari. When used as a trainer, shills should be chosen with a view to the ship on which tho commander will ultimately be specialized.

Consumables

Yūbari equips the following consumables:

Camouflage

As a premium ship, Yūbari comes included with Type 9 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, and increases the amount of experience she earns.

Signals

Yūbari captains should mount the standard flags to improve the ship's performance in battle. To improve upon the ship's armaments, India X-Ray (+1% chance of causing a fire for bombs and shells with a caliber above 160mm. / +0.5% chance of causing a fire for bombs and shells with a caliber below 160mm. / +5% to the risk of your ship's magazine detonating.), Victor Lima (+1% chance of causing a fire for bombs and shells with a caliber above 160mm / +0.5% chance of causing a fire for bombs and shells with a caliber below 160mm. / +4% chance of causing flooding.), and Juliet Whiskey Unaone (+15% chance of causing flooding. / +5% to the risk of your ship's magazine detonating.) flags are recommended to increase the fire chance and flooding chances respectively. To improve the ship’s survivability, captains should mount November Foxtrot (-5% reload time on all consumables.) and India Yankee (-20% to fire duration.) flags. Sierra Mike (+5% to the ship's maximum speed.) flags are recommended to increase the ship’s already high top speed. Lastly, economic and special signal flags can be mounted to improve the ship’s economic gains per battle.

Note: Use of the Juliet Charlie signal makes detonation impossible.
