Yamato — Japanese Tier X battleship.
The preliminary draft design of the battleship developed in Japan in the mid-1930s had a displacement of 49,000–69,500 tons, a speed of 24–31 knots, and a main gun caliber of 410–460 mm in various versions. The final version was Yamato, the largest battleship in the world. Admiral Yamamoto took command of the Japanese forces from her bridge during the Battle of Midway. On April 7, 1945, Yamato was sunk off Kyūshū island by attacking U.S. Navy aircraft during Operation Ten-Go.

Player Opinion
Performance
The pinnacle of all Japanese battleship design philosophy and possibly of the entire world, the Yamato gains its place as the most solid battleship at her tier. She has the most Hitpoints of any ship in the game, at a staggering 97200 and her guns have the highest citadel hit damage of any round in the game, at 14800 HP per citadel hit. The AA suite aboard matches her size and potency, with nearly 150 25mm AA barrels (in real life, 162 25mm AA barrels in latest upgrade). With a turning radius of 800m and a top speed of 27.2 kts, she is also surprisingly maneuverable despite her large size, but with a long rudder shift time and extremely slow turret traverse, one must plan all actions in advance, or risk being caught off-guard and unable to react. The guns, while accurate, are very unforgiving, with a 30 second reload stock, which can be decreased to just under 27 seconds at the expense of further reducing its abysmal turret traverse further by using a piece of equipment. Being one of the biggest ships in the game, Yamato is constantly targeted by Aircraft Carriers, and despite the numerous AA guns, high tier carriers can still get planes through, so it is advised to stay near ships that have solid AA suites such as cruisers for an AA "aegis" to be created. In addition, even though your armor is the most solid in the game you should still try to angle your ship as sometimes shells may have a chance to hit home and deal glaring damage.
Pros:
- Unrivaled guns, can penetrate battleship targets even when angled bow-on at long range.
- Excellent main battery dispersion.
- Heaviest armor and HP pool in the game as well as the best hit point regeneration of any ship.
- Unparalleled secondary armament makes the ship deadly at close quarters.
- Surprisingly good agility for its size
- Impressive torpedo bulge.
- Unrivaled range at 26 km and reaches up to 42 km with spotting plane consumable active
Cons:
- Extremely large size, at least slightly smaller than that of Izumo.
- Her notoriety and appearance draw unwanted attention
- The large quantity of short-ranged, small caliber AA guns with mediocre dual purpose long range AA make Yamato vulnerable to air attack.
- Extremely slow turret traverse rate of 72 seconds for traversing 180 degrees.
- Poor shell velocity of the main battery makes it difficult to hit distant targets.
- Long rudder shift time.
- Not invincible, you still need your team.
- Extremely weak broadside (area near the AA casemates).
- Extremely vulnerable to fires due to the percent damage dealt to health pools.
- Any caliber size (even from 4 tiers lower) can really easily set her on fire 2-4 times
- Portion of her frontal deck armor relies heavily on angle.
- AP penetration seems questionable at long range.
Research
There are no researchable modules as this ship is sold in her elite configuration.
Upgrades
- Gun Fire Control System Modification 1 will reduce the dispersion of her main batteries, which will improve her ability to hit things at the extreme ranges she fires
Captain's Skills
- Expert Marksman will improve her very slow turret traverse from 72 seconds to 56 seconds for 180 degrees
