Z-46 — German Tier IX destroyer.

A well-balanced design for a destroyer (Zerstörer 1936C type), intended for operations on the high seas. Her major distinction from the preceding classes was her artillery armament, comprising of up-to-date and dual-purpose main battery turret mounts.

Player Opinion

Pros:

Fast firing guns and decently fast turret traverse
Decent shell speed, arcs and gun range
Fast torpedoes and fastest torpedo reload of all Tier IX's
Decent AA for a destroyer
Decent ship speed, acceleration, HP and detection
Has normal Hydroacoustic Search (4.7km range)

Cons:

Bad Torpedo damage
Slow rudder shift
Large turning radius
Shortest smoke duration of all Tier IX destroyers
Has thick armor - battleship shells can deal normal penetration damage to it (which is devastating for a destroyer)

Research

Either quickly research the B hull (to get that extra needed HP) first, or research the FKS Typ 9 Mod. 2 module for an increase on range from the abysmal stock range, then research the other. G7 Wolfsbarsch torpedoes should be researched last as they only give +1 kt and +0.5 km range.

Optimal Configuration

Upgrades

For optimal gun configuration, players should mount Main Armaments Modification 1, Aiming Systems Modification 1, and Main Battery Modification 3 (to compete with her USN Tier IX destroyer counterpart, Fletcher).

If players wish to mount for optimal torpedo configuration, they should switch out the Tier IX upgrade slot for Torpedo Tubes Modification 3.

For utility upgrades, players should mount either Propulsion Modification 1 or Steering Gears Modification 1 (based on which the player feels more vital), Propulsion Modification 2 or Steering Gears Modification 2 (again based on whichever the player feels more important), and Concealment System Modification 1 (to compete with her Tier IX USN & IJN counterparts {Fletcher and Yūgumo}).

Consumables

Players can equip the following consumables: Damage Control Party, Smoke Generator, Engine Boost, and Hydroacoustic Search.

Camouflage

Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Types 1 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce detectibility range.

Players who wish to spend doubloons can equip Z-46 with Type 19 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, reduces her repair costs, and increases the amount of experience she earns.

Signals

The choice of which Signal Flags to mount will confer to the individual preference of each captain, and are subject to great variation, although there are certain flags which suit Destroyer gameplay better. Captains should mount India Yankee to decrease time to extinguish fires, mount November Foxtrot to decrease reload time of consumables, and mount Sierra Mike to increase the ship's maximum speed. To make their torpedoes more potent, captains should mount Juliet Whisky Unaone to increase chance of causing flooding and Juliet Charlie to mitigate risk to magazine detonation from mounting the former flag. If captains wish to buff their primary artillery, they are encouraged to mount Victor Lima + India X-ray to increase fire chance to HE shells.
