Pros and Cons

Pros:


  • High top speed and acceleration, terrain resistance makes up for lower pw/wt ratio
  • Excellent maneuverability
  • Great alpha for a medium tank, can bear up well in trading fights even against some heavy tanks
  • Rear mounted turret gives ability to sidescrape with
  • Thick frontal hull armor combined with a good slope makes it a tough nut to crack up front


Cons:


  • Very bad aiming time and horrid accuracy
  • Gun depression is almost zero in practice,the turret is rear mounted so very difficult to aim in close fight.
  • Commanders hatch is a prominent weakspot, weak ammo rack and frequent engine damage if shot in the smaller lower hull portion
  • Frontal hull armor is 150mm only on small areas, the big sloped plate is 75mm thick
  • Terrible turret dispersion - turning the turret even slightly results in huge aiming bloom.

Angle too little and your front hull is exposed with little angling. This strategy is better used in a defense manner. If the enemy knows what to do, they will rush your tank, forcing you to either give them your side hull (which is loaded with ammo racks) or to withdraw.

Avoiding hilly terrain and CQC in this tank is very important. Your gun is too unwieldy with the abysmal aim time and gun depression in addition to the rear-mounted turret to attempt either. Before making a move, you should plan ahead to make sure that you won't be getting yourself into an even worse position than the one you were just in. This tank works best on flat terrain with some hard cover where you can mitigate the weaknesses of this tank. Also, sniping is futile in practice with this tank. Your aim time and accuracy make hitting your targets based more on luck and less on your ability to aim.


Early Research

  • When starting off, the radio, V-5 Engine and 76mm S-54 should be ready to go and mounted immediately.
  • The good news is that all the guns and top radio carry over from the T-34 and A-43,and if you previously played T-150 or KV-2, you might already have the 107mm ZiS-6 unlocked too.
  • Bad news is that the 107mm gun CAN'T be immediately mounted due to its weight, so Priority must be given to the Tracks!
  • If, unfortunately you have not played the USSR heavies before, then the next priority would be the 107mm ZIS-6, for a much wanted huge increase in alpha damage.
  • Engines are already researched from the T-150, KV-2 and KV-3, and of course the predecessor A-43. Players should have already got this unlocked and there are just no excuses not to have it unlocked earlier.
  • Finally, mount the turret for a HP, armor, & view range buff.

Historical Info

The project was at Factory No. 183 by engineer I.S. Ber in April 1941. the idea behind it was to multipurpose platform that could be easily modified in to completely different vehicles. Initial idea was to create three different versions with different armor, armament, combat weight and speed; but all with the same layout. Engine was in front on the right of the machine gun gunner, left side middle was passage between driver and fighting compartment while the transmission was in front. Commanders hatch was on the middle left, while the exhaust was pushed to the middle right. The prototype was scheduled to be built by the beginning of 1942. However, the project was discontinued due to the outbreak of the Soviet-German war.
