The T28 Prototype is an American tier 8 tank destroyer.
Early prototype of a heavy tank designed for breaking through fortifications of the German Siegfried Line. Existed only in blueprints, prepared under the program for developing heavy vehicles that was initiated in September 1943.
The T28 Proto has a great gun and accuracy, and a rather good ROF, however turret traverse is slow and easily flanked. This is made up for by good armor. The Proto is very very slow, if caught in the open there is no chance to survive and reversing will do no good.
The T28 Prototype leads to the T30.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Great top tier gun
- Excellent rate of fire
- Adequate armour if angle
- Intimidating opponent, especially if faced head on by medium or lower tier heavies
Cons:
- Open turret is incredibly vulnerable against artillery and HE shells
- Slow traverse and speed make you an easy target for artillery and medium tanks
- Not much slope on armour
- Low camouflage
Performance
It is very similar to the T28, especially in its speed. Sacrificing 51mm of frontal armor in order to mount a turret made the T28 Prototype easier to penetrate from the front. Its wide open turret also makes it incredibly easy to kill with artillery, so staying in cover as much as possible is key to survival. With its fast firing and accurate 120mm cannon, the T28 Prototype shouldn't be underestimated, and it still has enough armor to bounce several lower tier guns with ease, though the side and rear armor is extremely thin. It has very nice gun depression, so it can be tricky to fight this tank when it's in a hull down position. In such cases, your best bet is to use HE rounds. It's important to note that the turret can only traverse a total of 286° degrees, which can be a major disadvantage if a medium or light tank gets behind you.
Early Research
- You should aim to unlock both guns before moving on to anything else. The starting gun is inadequate, while the 120mm makes you a destroyer of worlds.
- Next you should aim for the radio to allow you to pinpoint where you are needed on the battlefield, as your slow speed makes you committed to whichever route you take.
- Tracks are next, followed by engine
