The WZ-120 is a Chinese tier 9 medium tank.
Initially, the WZ-120 (Type 59) tank was a copy of the Soviet medium T-54A tank. In later modifications the tank was upgraded. Between 6,000 and 9,500 vehicles of all variants were manufactured from 1958 through 1987.
The WZ-120 is very similar to its Soviet counterpart, the T-54 and it plays like the T-54 or the Type 59. While the WZ-120 may be similiar to the T-54, but the T-54 has better hull armor. Final gun of WZ-120 has second best damage and penetration of tier IX medium tanks.
The WZ-120 leads to the 121.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Good mobility
- Strong turret front
- Somewhat bouncy frontal hull armor
- Strong top gun (best characteristics in damage and penetration among all tier IX mediums, aside for those using 105 mm L7A1 t
Cons:
- Very expensive upgrades especially if you didn't finish the Chinese heavy line.
- If you're coming from Chinese medium line, you need to research two tier IX guns (45 000 exp and 59 000 exp) and one tier X g
- Extremely poor gun depression.
- In addition all higher tier guns have slow aiming time.
- Needs to be on a mostly level surface to shoot anything possible while exposing your weak hull armor.
Performance
WZ-120 outperforms many tanks of its tier, and gives same tier medium tanks stiff competition due to its excellent top gun and mobility. However, like the T-54, getting the WZ-120 "fully upgraded" takes time and patience but is well worth the grind. Because of this tanks good mobility, speed, and powerful gun, it is a formidable opponent against many of its tier 9 counterparts. This tank can be used in a number of ways according to your play style from which line you came up from. It has less max and traverse speed than the WZ-132, but still a good top and traverse for a tier 9 medium, making a well rounded tier 9 tank for most players. Its armor is not very impressive, but the stock and upgraded turrets have enough armor to bounce many shots, the hull armor is only 100mm, but with the slope of the frontal armor, you can bounce a few shots as well if you know how to angle the armor correctly. Unfortunately, like many other Chinese tanks, it has horrible gun depression, but, because of its low silhouette, it can get good shots off from beside many of the bigger tanks that can provide covering fire as well as cover to pop out from. Although the grind on this tank does tank a while, it really is just mostly the grind for the turret and the better guns, but is worth it because this medium tank has the second best gun of all tier 9 tanks. Even if you do not get the top gun for this tank, the tier 9 guns have enough pen and average damage to do quite well in many battles.
Early Research
- If you came from the WZ-132, the 100 mm 60-100T Gun and A-220A Radio carry over. Mount them immediately.
- If you came from the T-34-2, the 12150LS Engine and A-220A Radio carry over. Mount them immediately.
- It is recommended to get the suspension so you do not need to worry about weight of the other important modules later on.
- If you want more firepower, research the WZ-120-1 Turret, followed by the 100 mm 62-100T Gun and the 122 mm 60-122T Gun.
- The WZ-120-1 Turret adds an additional 100 Hit Points to the tank.
- If you want more speed, research the 12150LT Engine.
- The best research order for the WZ-120 is Tracks--> Upgraded Turret--> Upgraded Radio--> Upgraded Guns

Historical Info
The first vehicles were produced in 1958 and it was accepted into service in 1959, with serial production beginning in 1963. Approximately 9,500 of the tanks were produced by the time production ended in 1980 with approximately 5,500 serving with the Chinese armed forces. The tank formed the backbone of the Chinese People's Liberation Army until 2000s (decade), with an estimated 5,000 of the later Type 59-I and Type 59-II variants in service in 2002.
Essentially the WZ120 is identical to the early production Soviet T-54As, however there are some key differences. The WZ120 was not originally fitted with the infrared searchlight or main gun stabilization of the T-54.
The WZ120 has a conventional post-war layout with the fighting compartment at the front, an engine compartment at the rear, and a cast dome-shaped gun turret in the centre of the hull. The hull is welded steel varying in thickness between 99 millimeters on the front lower glacis to 20 millimeters on the hull floor. The turret is between 100 and 39 millimeters thick.
The driver sits in the front left of the hull, and is provided with hatch immediately above his seat, which opens to the left. the driver has two pop-up vision blocks which give coverage ahead and slightly to the right when buttoned up. The commander sits in the turret along with the gunner and loader. The commander's hatch is on the turret left, with the gunner sitting forward and below him. The loader sits on the right of the turret and has a hatch above him. The turret has a non-rotating floor, which complicated the crew's operations.[citation needed]
WZ120 was modified several times during its service with the replacement of the 100 mm Type 59 rifled gun with a 105 mm rifled gun. It was also the basis of several later Chinese tank designs including the Type 69 and Type 79 tanks.
