Specifically, the mismatch in crew values caused by commander's 10% crew skill bonus. Outside of a crew of 1 commander only, 100% crew is a fiction. The client values, given for 100% crew, will normally be taken into battle with 110% crew skill members aside from specific functions, causing their actual performance to deviate from the expected client value. These differences are taken into account in tooltip boxes.

The FCM 36 Pak 40 is a French tier 3 premium tank destroyer.

In 1943, ten FCM 36 tanks captured by the Germans were converted into tank destroyers. The vehicles fought in France with the Verstärkte Schnelle Brigade West.

The FCM 36 Pak 40 is a very unique tank destroyer. With thick hull armor, above average hit points, as well as great penetration and rate of fire, it is a very potent and powerful tank destroyer - as long as you don't need to move.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Good armor
  • Good penetration and rate of fire
  • Good accuracy and aim time
  • Excellent view range
  • Good gun depression

Cons:

  • Poor engine power and top speed
  • Narrow gun arc
  • Poor signal range
  • Low ammo capacity

Performance

The FCM 36 Pak 40 (also known as the Marder I) is atypical for a premium tank in that its gun has far superior accuracy, rate of fire and aim time compared to the regular 7,5 cm PaK 40/2 on the Marder II, making it a very powerful opponent. However, this is severely weighted down with a dismal gun traverse, at approximately 7 degrees. In order to shoot a moving target, you will have to rotate your entire tank, resetting your aim time and giving the tank relative inaccuracy when hitting targets that are traveling at fast speeds. However, when firing upon slow or immobile targets, you can use your penetration and accuracy to your full potential, severely damaging the target in a matter of seconds. Your hull armor is thick and capable of absorbing enemy fire, but the case mate holding the gun is huge and very thin, mitigating your armor advantage. In addition, you have an open top, meaning you are especially prone to HE damage. Most artillery that happens to get a direct shot at your top will one-shot you, especially in tier 5 battles. Lastly, you have extremely low engine power, giving it a horrible speed, with a worse horsepower to weight ratio than even the Maus, the largest tank in the game. The FCM36 PaK40 was the first premium tank destroyer to be added in-game.

Historical Info

FCM 36 Pak 40 was one of the vehicles from the Marder I family
The FCM 36 or Char léger Modèle 1936 FCM, was a light infantry tank that was designed for the French Army prior to World War II. It had a crew of two and was equipped with a short 37 mm main armament and a 7.5 mm coaxial machine gun. Power was provided by a diesel engine. The Germans captured 37 FCM 36s, using the administrative designation Panzerkampfwagen 737 FCM (f) for them. In 1943 ten of the captured FCM's were rebuilt as Marder I tank destroyers, which were employed by 21 Panzerdivision in the Battle of Normandy in 1944. Except FCM36, germans also used other captured french veichles for the Marder I conversion; Lorraine 37L (170 produced), Hotckiss H35 (unknown number produced) and Hotckiss H39 (24 produced).
