The Somua SM is a French tier 8 premium heavy tank.
A French heavy tank, presented as an alternative for the AMX 50 at a design competition. Development started in 1946; however, the prototype was not ready until October 1951. German tank-building technologies were applied in the development of the vehicle: it was equipped with a 100-mm gun with a magazine-system autoloader installed in an oscillating turret. The tank underwent trials from January through July 1953, during which it did not show any promising results. Consequently, the project was discontinued in favor of the AMX 50.

Performance
The Somua SM works well as a frontline supporter-brawler. Judging by the traditions of French autoloaders, its burst damage may not be that surprising, neither has it the necessary mobility to evade retaliate easily. Yet American autoloader commanders will find this vehicle much accustomed: handy armor, quick reload and adaptive to terrains. The only significant difference is that boxy, Germanic appearance than large cast pieces. Tactics-wise, its slow pace suits those heavy brethren perfectly. Play like an T57 Heavy Tank: finish off the damaged or devastate the fresh ones in no time, then retreat into cover. Fear not when the situations call for your spearheading, for you do have some armor to boot. Bullying the meds is also an option, just be well-aware that the Somua can't relocate as one wishes easily, and probably won't survive any wolf-pack assault with depleted drum and little support.
