Avoid crashing into other tanks when at high speed: you'll lose a lot of health due to your light weight and thin armor. Use your DPM and fire AP or HEAT at enemies whenever you're not scouting. If you're spotted, never stand still, as any shot that hits you will penetrate, or at best, HE will rarely detonate upon impact (but not penetration) and still deal lots of damage. | More or less a lighter version of Leopard Prototyp A that is designed for recon, keep moving with your amazing speed and maneuver when you can, but make sure not to turn around too much as this ''will'' slow you down a lot. Play it like a standard issue light tank with few - if any - downsides, but remember that it offers a lot more mobility and gun depression than most other lights, especially at this tier. | Play it like a standard issue light tank with few - if any - downsides, but remember that it offers a lot more mobility and gun depression than most other lights, especially at this tier. |

The Spähpanzer Ru 251 is a German tier 9 light tank.
The vehicle was based on the Kanonenjagdpanzer 4-5 tank destroyer by the Henschel company in 1964. The tank was planned to replace the obsolete M41 Walker Bulldog vehicles used by the reconnaissance battalions of the armored divisions in the German Army. The tank never saw mass production, but some technical innovations were applied later in the development of other vehicles. The total number of prototypes built is unknown.
The Spähpanzer Ru 251 leads to the Rheinmetall Panzerwagen.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- One of the fastest tanks in the game; very mobile with the best power-to-weight ratio in its class/tier
- Very high damage per minute
- Fast aim time and good dispersion values
- Fires HESH; has high HE penetration
- Highest AP penetration out of all tier 8 LTs
Cons:
- Very thin armor; almost every caliber will triple overmatch (guaranteed penetration) your armor
- Larger profile than most other lights
- Gun depression only reaches its full -10 degrees when aiming to the sides
- Sluggish AP velocity makes sniping and leading targets from a distance less reliable (can be compensated by loading HEAT)

Consider playing this tank as a better VK 28.01: It is faster, has a lower profile, better camo value, more view range and the gun is superior. Although the caliber is a bit lower than the VKs derpgun, thus the damage output of HE shells is not as high as that of the VK 28.01 it is still a great idea to carry a lot of HE shells and only a few ap rounds. Aimtime/Reloadtime/Shell velocity and Gun accuracy(0.36 compared to 0.55 Derp) make this tank an excellent platform to deliver long range HE track shots to top priority targets and as soon as you are in close combat, you want to be behind or circling your target. HE is excellent for this situation and the 100mm pen will gladly go through most tanks' rear armor and deal even more damage than AP shells. Switching ammo types according to the situation and foreseeing which ammo you need after your current one will give you an edge. Note that HE Shells are also a wonderful tool to counter enemy scouts. Full damage on pen (nearly guaranteed on lights) or they get tracked. Suggested loadout would be 5AP / 10HEAT / 26HE
This tank has both the top gun and turret right out the box, making this an easier grind than most tanks.

Historical Info
By the middle of the 1960s the Leopard tank was in production and it was decided that reconnaissance units did not need their own specialist vehicles. The development of the Spähpanzer Kette was dropped without any further vehicles being built and its role was given over to the Leopard. With hindsight, this may have been a hasty move as the wheeled Spähpanzer Luchs was eventually developed to take back this role from the Leopard.
The materials concerning this tank are actually still considered confidential by the Bundeswehr.
