Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Outstanding Alpha and Penetration
- Turret, which is uncommon for a TD
- Fairly good DPM
- Can shift around the map to go where it needs to be
- Short aimtime
Cons:
- Viewrange is average at best
- Horrible soft gun stats
- Paper armor that can be penetrated reliably even by HE shells
- Full gundepression is only usable when aiming sideways
- Bad camouflage
Performance
Essentially, this tank is a Mini Grille 15 on T8. The mobility, DPM, Penetration and Alpha are all attributes that are still useful in T9 and T10 battles. As with every low armor tank, you should pay special attention to not getting hit, as most hits will result in damage. Under the right circumstances you can even play the Rheinmetall Skorpion G like a medium tank, but it is a fine line between success and failure. Focus on distracted enemies and tanks that have just fired. In some rare instances you can also trade shots, especially versus lower tier mediums with 75mm guns. Due to the horrible gunsoftstats snapshots won't connect most of the time. It is really important to let the gun aim, especially since you will be reloading for 10+ seconds. With such a long reloadtime you don't want to waste shots.
At the beginning of the battle you can decide to rush a key location or pick a TD spot. Even if you are doing the latter, watch for gaps on the minimap. Once a gap presents itself, exploit it and use your mobility to flank the enemy and put the pressure on. Due to the mobility, this tank is also nicely suited for cleanup during lategame. Just make sure you don't overextend yourself and end up in a spot with no way out.
On a final note, the 246mm of penetration on the AP rounds allows you to damage most tanks you will encounter reliably, which is especially important for a premium tank, since one typically uses them to earn credits. While it does have great credit earning potential, the same cannot be said for crewtraining. It features a 4 man crew with the Commander also being the Loader. If you are using german TD's with 5 or 6 man crewlayouts you are unable to train your Loaders and they will fall behind. But even among the german TD's with 4 crewmembers there is only one matching the crewlayout of the Rheinmetall Skorpion G:
The Marder 38T.
All the other 4 man operated german TD's use a Loader and in return no Radio Operator.
This is only a minor letdown, but one to keep in mind.
