The VK 30.01 (H) is a German tier 5 medium tank.
An order for developing the vehicle was placed on September 9, 1939. Over the course of its development, Henschel engineers actively used elements of the D.W. II project. The first two prototypes were ready in March 1942; another two were built by October the same year. Hulls of the prototypes underwent trials at the plant proving ground. After the trials, two prototypes were converted into heavy tank destoyers. Six turrets manufactured by the Krupp company were placed at the Atlantic Wall.
This tank is the fastest and most agile of the three German tier 6 mediums and packs considerable firepower. However, it has fragile hull and stock turret armor, giving this tank the lowest survivability for dogfighting and other close-combat encounters. Also, to be able to mount the 8.8 cm KwK 36 L/56 gun the turret has to be upgraded, but this will decrease the agility and drive-performance of the tank due to the added weight and the slower traverse speed. This tank is recommended for mid-range encounters, as the relatively accurate and powerful 8.8 cm gun proves extremely effective against even tier 7 tanks. Just make sure you have backup.
The VK 30.01 (H) leads to the VK 36.01 (H), and the VK 30.02 (M).

Performance
This tank should be played either as a flanker or as a sniper. It's somewhat similar to the Pz.Kpfw. III/IV, but with better guns and less armor - while being a higher tier. If you try to go toe-to-toe with enemies you will die right away and waste this tank's potential. For toe-to-toe combat, the VK 36.01 (H) will serve you better. This tank has two guns that will make the enemies think twice before firing. The 7,5cm L/70 gun and the famous 8,8 cm KwK 36 L/56 gun. Both of them are on par for tier VI. When playing with the 88, flanking is a good option as this gun have a huge damage potential. This gun can even one-shot low tier light tanks. However, note that this gun have a somewhat long reload time, so stay in cover or behind allies while reloading.
For the players who favour long range combat, the 7,5cm L/70 (also used on the StuG III and JagdPanzer IV) is a great weapon, boasting great accuracy, average damage, and high rate of fire. In a hull down position at over 300m range, even Tier 7 tanks can have trouble penetrating your turret front side. Then again, you'll have some trouble penetrating theirs too.
Early Research
- Upon purchasing this tank, you should immediately install the 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/48 and upgrade the radio to at least the FuG 7.
- Next you can decide between going for the Maybach HL 174 or the 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70.
- Now research the choice on the line above that you didn't do.
- Upgrade the suspension next.
- Go from there.
