The Pz.Kpfw. 38 (t) n.A. is a German tier 4 light tank.
Developed by the BMM company as a new light reconnaissance tank on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw. 38 (t) from July 1940. The vehicle used welding technology instead of rivets. The new engine and improved transmission allowed for a top speed of 64 km/h. Development was discontinued in favor of the VK 1303. Five prototypes were manufactured.
Essentially a Pz.Kpfw. 38 (t) with more armor, more hit points, a higher top speed, but lower acceleration.
The "nA" in the tank's name stands for "neuer Art", which might be considered similar to the term "State-of-the-art" in English. Its fully upgraded cannon is surprisingly powerful and is even able to damage a tier VII tank in certain situations. However, it is slow in reverse, making reversing an unreliable way to get out of a jam.
The Pz.Kpfw. 38 (t) n.A. marks the end of its German light line.

Performance
With the new turret comes the ability to mount a powerful 5 cm gun. An improved engine is also available, but the added weight tends to mitigate it. Also, be aware that you, unfortunately, will be facing up to tier 8 tanks, which will destroy you mercilessly. Although clearly statistically superior to the Pz.Kpfw. 38 (t), the higher tier battles can often make this tank feel inferior in combat situations. Fortunately, this does not mean you can't be useful in a scout role. While passive scouting is usually your best option, its small profile and agility often enables you to outmaneuver higher tier enemies. This can lead to situations where repeat shots at enemy tracks can effectively keep an enemy's highest tanks out of the game for several minutes. As a result, some players consider this tank to be a good luck charm, similar to that of the MS-1.
If you're a player who prefers speed over firepower on a tank such as this, you may want to experiment between the 2nd turret and the 5 cm gun vs. the 1st turret with the 4.7 cm gun. Also if planning to play a pure scout or support tank, it is recommended to equip the 47mm gun with HE rounds, while damage and penetration may be worthless, tracking an opponent especially in higher tiers, may be more useful then doing miniscule damage.
Players may want to try the Off-Road Driving or Clutch Braking skills to see if it helps with acceleration and/or helps reduce speed bleed-off during turns, two areas this tank can use help with.
Early Research
- Both the FuG 5 and FuG 8 radios carry over from the PzKpfw 38 (t), as well as the 4.7 cm PaK 38 (t) L/43 gun, which should be installed immediately.
- Research the Praga NR engine first.
- Next research the upgraded suspension.
- Go from there.
