The Excelsior is a British tier 5 premium heavy tank.
An experimental assault tank on the Cromwell's chassis. Developed as a replacement for infantry and cruiser tanks. Development was started in 1942, and two prototypes designated the Excelsior were built by the English Electric Company in 1943–44. After the trials, the project was discontinued in favor of the Churchill tank that was already developed.
The Tank, Heavy Assault, A33 (Excelsior) was a British experimental heavy tank based on the Cromwell (A27) design developed in the Second World War when there were concerns as to performance of the Churchill tank.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Very thick armor all around turret - rear nearly as thick as front
- Thick 108mm plate across the rear of the hull
- Very mobile for a heavy, very agile
- Great gun depression
- Relatively weak side is covered by spaced armor and tracks
Cons:
- Poor penetration and accuracy with stock rounds - premium rounds required against heavies
- Frontal armor profile is mostly flat and angling will expose your weak sides
- Roof armor is only 19mm, making it vulnerable to arty or shots down from elevation
Performance
The Excelsior does not look amazing on paper, but in play it is a fascinating tank. The low alpha of the gun is more than compensated for by a high RoF. The premium rounds are affordable in credits, and the Excelsior is a good money maker for Tier V with minimal repair costs. When using premium rounds, the penetration goes up to 144mm - there's not many tanks that the Excelsior will see that it cannot frontally pen. AT-2's & AT-8's are a tough nut however and will chew you apart if you don't sort them. Always rack up some HE rounds for these fellas.
Very very agile, you can twist and turn and outmaneuver other heavies. Don't try circle of death however - those weak sides will not take it. It's more of a darting, lancing, probing style of play for the Excelsior.
Reverse speed is pretty good, which allows for some interesting tactics. When caught between a rock and a hard place, it is perfectly capable of reversing towards an enemy that has flanked your rear, shooting at that enemy in order to take it out and regain cover, while the enemy in front of you wastes ammo on your thick frontal armor and thick rear turret armor. That big plate across the rear of your engine is 108mm thick, not bad, and the rear of your turret is slightly less at 92mm.
For the ultimate in fun and roflstomping, platoon three of them together. You will still matchmake no higher than VI and should be able to tear the other side to pieces, provided you work together.
