Specifically, the mismatch in crew values caused by commander's 10% crew skill bonus. Outside of a crew of 1 commander only, 100% crew is a fiction. The client values, given for 100% crew, will normally be taken into battle with 110% crew skill members aside from specific functions, causing their actual performance to deviate from the expected client value. These differences are taken into account in tooltip boxes.

The Rinoceronte is an Italian tier 10 heavy tank.

At the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, a number of countries started developing vehicles with unmanned turrets to improve crew survival. Italian military engineers decided to adopt these innovations, but chose to use existing designs. The turret was based on the German turret from the advanced KPz 3 tank. The hull configuration was also adopted from German vehicles. At the same time, Italian engineers tried to increase the armor thickness to the maximum. To improve the projectile resistance of the frontal armor, it was decided to make it similar to the "pike nose" shape. Development was discontinued at the drafting stage.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • 3-shot autoreloader with good burst damage
  • Great shell velocity (with standard APCR rounds), aim time and accuracy
  • Great gun depression
  • Frontal armor is very effective in hull-down positions
  • Low profile and fairly compact size, decent camouflage for a heavy tank

Cons:

  • Extremely long reload (over 50 seconds for a full clip)
  • Smallest hitpoint pool of all Tier 10 heavy tanks
  • Very poor on the move gun handling
  • Outside of hull-down, the armor loses most of its effectiveness
  • Very poor shell velocity with HEAT and HE rounds

Performance

One of the more unique-looking tanks due to its very unconventional turret, Rinoceronte brings hull-down to its logical extreme as its playstyle heavily (if not completely) depends on it, far more than any other Italian heavy tank given the stiff opposition faced in the Tier 10 arena. This tank is all about finding uneven terrain and entrenching itself in a position where it can use its full gun depression to maximize the sloping of its upper glacis and turret, improving their effective thickness to a point where only premium ammunition will have a chance to score penetrating hits. Further aiding to this playstyle, this tank has a very low profile and it can be tricky to hit at range - it does have a weakspot in the form of a protrusion on top of its gun barrel, but it is a small target and not easy to hit at range.

Unfortunately, being good when hull-down is about all Rinoceronte is good at. It has the smallest hitpoint pool of all Tier 10 heavy tanks, and its armor is hardly enough to save it on flat ground, especially in the premium ammo meta that's prevalent in the tank's tier spread. Its gun has very good shell velocity, accuracy and aim time, but very poor gun handling and abysmal DPM and shell-per-shell reload speed, making it more suited for mid-long range engagements rather than brawls. It does have the same improved autoreloader found on other Italian heavy tanks though.

Lastly, it is the only Italian heavy tank with a three-man crew, and lacks a dedicated loader, making crew transfer from other Italian heavy tanks problematic.

Early Research

The tank comes elite in its stock configuration.
