Specifically, the mismatch in crew values caused by commander's 10% crew skill bonus. Outside of a crew of 1 commander only, 100% crew is a fiction. The client values, given for 100% crew, will normally be taken into battle with 110% crew skill members aside from specific functions, causing their actual performance to deviate from the expected client value. These differences are taken into account in tooltip boxes.

1490000

The O-Ni is a Japanese tier 7 heavy tank.

A further development of the O-I with improved anti-tank guns. The military command's plan was to improve the earlier models and achieve a higher level of armor protection on the vehicle. Existed only in blueprints. No finished prototypes were built and the vehicle never saw action.

The O-Ni leads to the O-Ho.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Very durable; tough front & rear armour
  • Choice of 2 viable guns
  • Rather easy stock grind
  • Strong turret and great gun depression are decent for hull down
  • Surprisingly good power to weight ratio results in good acceleration for its size, great for ramming

Cons:

  • Largest tier 7 tank, great target for SPGs
  • Awful camo values due to large size
  • Low top speed and traverse speed
  • Very weak side armor combined with miniturrets & cheek weakspots makes armour unreliable, especially when angled
  • Both guns have mediocre reload, accuracy and aiming time

Performance

The O-Ni is the next step towards the end of the Japanese Heavy tank Line. Having the most hit points at tier 7 (1550 hitpoints), it can take a lot of punishment and still fight back. The choice of two top guns is the same as on the previous tank, the O-I, with a small increase in accuracy & rate of fire. Much like all Japanese Heavies, O-Ni doesn't make an exception: it feels right at home in the city, where it can use cover to hide its numerous weakspots and safely complete the long reloads. However, you need to take extreme care when sidescraping as your side armor is very thin and easily penetrated when over-angled, especially at the drivewheel. On top of that, the hull has angled "cheeks" which further inhibit the ability to sidescrape as angling will decrease their angle. Not only are the miniturrets weakspots, they also get in the way of the O-Ni's 10 degrees of gun depression, decreasing it to 9 degrees when aiming directly above them.

Early Research

Once you get the tank, you can choose buy both the engine and 15cm inherited from the O-I. The 15cm is a good gun, however it will struggle to pen higher tier tanks, you'll want to research the Experimental 10cm as soon as you can, however you cannot fit it on the stock suspension along with the upgraded engine and radio.

Historical Accuracy Errata

The following are consensus errors or inconsistencies which have been identified with the configuration of the vehicle in question and conflict with information available on the public record. The causes for these divergences in the game are normally not disclosed and may be rooted in game balance.

In-game name is incorrect, it was one of variants of O-I and they all were "O-Is" along with O-I and O-Ho.
  • There is no historical basis that this O-I variant used neither 15 cm howitzer or the 10 cm Experimental Tank Gun.
