The <value_unset_error> is a [[|]] tier .

Rather than using the 203mm gun from the the Object 212, it mounts the 180mm which may turn some people off with its lack of damage. It does compensate with a higher rate of fire, and has good accuracy which makes some players use Armor Piercing shells for more consistent damage and better penetration. Unfortunately, it only carries 18 rounds as opposed to 40 rounds on the Object 212. It is quite mobile for its size, having the second highest top speed of the four tier 8 SPGs.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Most accurate artillery in its tier, making AP rounds a viable option.
- Shell speed is extremely fast, fired shots reach the target much quicker than other artillery.
- Artillery is fairly mobile, being only slightly slower than many mediums.
Cons:
- Shells travel on an extremely flat trajectory, making it difficult to hit targets behind cover.
- Extremely flat trajectory means direct hits, making it difficult to penetrate heavily armored tanks.
Performance
Experienced players will quickly note that the Object 261 can't hit hard heavy tanks and some TD's. This is not because of the penetration or damage, but because of the angle at which the shells reach their targets. Most of the players that played with SPG's will see that the penetration is very bad, but all shells, with exception of the Object 261, tends to hit the enemy exactly on the top of their tanks, the second most unarmored part of most of the tanks ( the first being underneath them ), and so they can deal the total damage. It's not possible to penetrate the top of one tank with the Object 261, because the shell reaches the target in one next to parallel angle with their roofs, so 100-150mm of armor in the top of one tier XII, IX or X Heavy will become 400mm ( Pitagoras Theorem, sine, cosine, tangent and blablabla )...
It is best played as one Medium Tank killer, and will done it's job sometimes best than some Heavy Tanks. Ever, ever, ever try avoid artillery combat, considering that all others tier VIII SPG's can hit you, and you, most of the times, not. Instead of trying to get the most hidden place, try to get the most distant place. So, you will be able to deliver death without having to relocate to fire.
Early Research
Both Object 261M Suspension and M-50D Engine are good choices, but like others SPG's is recommended that you research the tracks first to turn faster your tank and so the engine. The 12RT radio is common of most of high tier soviet tanks, but try to get the 10RT-26E to pick targets farther. Finish with the last M-50TD Engine that will give you more 3 or 4 Km/h. Remember that equipment is very important, and if you are short of money to buy one upgrade and one equipment, prefer the equipment.
