Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Very thick and well angled glacis plates, sloped turret allows to bounce Tier X guns
- Almost impossible to hit cupolas
- Highest AP alpha damage of all tier 8 heavies, allowing for very effective trades
- Good penetration, on par with the IS-3's BL-9
- Lower plate is quite tough, and can resist guns with <215 penetration
Cons:
- Low DPM
- Horrific accuracy and gun handling
- Low view range
Performance
Say hi to Pay2Win and goodbye to balance. 230mm of penetration are required to reliably damage this tank with some margin for negative RNG on penetration rolls to go through the lower plate. Sniping the cupolas is not a realistic option. Hitting such a small target relies way too much on RNG not screwing with your accuracy roll and this does not even take into account simple defensive maneuvers of your opponent by wiggling his tanks. Object Powercreep can safely roll over any T8 Special Matchmaking Tank, T8 Medium Tanks in general and all inferior lower Tier tanks. Some still stand a decent chance by using Premiumammunition, whereas certain tanks with the 122mm shotgun with 175mm AP penetration and 217mm APCR / 250mm HEAT penetration even struggle with their superior ammunition type. 250mm HEAT might still sound like enough, but don't forget that HEAT receives no normalization whatsoever. Only few tanks in T8 feature enough penetration to reliably damage Object Powercreep. The combination of 440 alpha, decent mobility and trollish armour (exceeding IS-3) allows Object Powercreep to be incredibly effective in close quarter situations.
One might to want to bring up the argument, that Object Powercreep is being held back by having to face Tier X. While it is true, that Tier X games can and will happen, that still does not make Object Poweercreep balanced in any way, shape or form. First of all, all T8 tanks have to face Tier X games, so it is not a problem specifially related to Object Powercreep. If anything, there is a problem with +-2 MM. But even when taking a look at Tier X games Object Powercreep features several qualities, that allow it to have an impact.
- First of all 225mm of penetration is still an okay value to deal damage to a variety of Tier X tanks. And if 225 is not enough there is always the option to load APCR for 265mm of penetration
- Secondly Ø alpha damage of 440 is still not to be underestimated. You still do more damage per shot than the majority of Tier X Medium Tanks for example.
- Thirdly the armour of Object Powercreep can still be effective. Ofcourse no one cares about your lower plate of 210mm effective armour anymore at Tier X, but what about if you can partially hulldown? That's right no complete hulldown, just covering the lower plate. There will be a bunch of locations where you can pull off such a simply maneuver, especially when defending an area. In such a case with a straight pikenose you will be showcasing effective armour in excess of 300mm (!) for the entire upper hull and large parts of the turret when facing the enemy on even terrain. In such a situation the only option of the enemy is to snipe the supertiny cupolas (keep dreaming) or aiming for a small aread of the gun manlet to the right of the gun, which is "only" 250mm of armour.
Fuck you Wargaming.
