Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Highest alpha damage among Russian heavy tanks, good gun handling
- Ridiculously strong turret armor with virtually no weakspots
- Hull sides are thick and covered with spaced armor, excellent for sidescraping
- Good top speed and acceleration
- Huge mass, thick armor and decent speed allow for effective ramming
Cons:
- Poor rate of fire and DPM
- Long aim time and bad accuracy
- Bad gun depression
- Rear-mounted turret makes the tank rather inflexible
- HE shell damage is lower than average for a 152mm gun
Performance
The Object 705A is the ultimate superheavy. Its armor is insane at everywhere except the classic lower glacis and rear. You'd have to be crazy to try shooting the upper glacis plate or turret of this thing. Its side armor is also deceptively strong. The gun has decent accuracy, allowing you to get good shots on the weak points of other vehicles while they have basically nothing to target; it can easily destroy a Maus in a hulldown battle simply by shooting its weak spots, while the Maus has nothing to hit. These features make it a master of hulldown/sidescraping battles.
Get into a good hulldown spot as fast as you can; The 705A can only be beaten from there by rushing around and shooting its sides or rear, something practically impossible to do when the it has significant backup. If you get into a game on Himmelsdorf, just head to Banana Alley (E7/F7) and pop right behind a rubble pile there, then trade shells with the other heavies as they give up trying to damage you.
Anything to decrease the long reload will be great, so an upgraded rammer is very useful. Improved Hardening is also good, and a Vertical Stabilizer or Gun Laying Drive will help improve your accuracy.
