The Object 263 is a Soviet tier 9 tank destroyer.
The development of a heavy tank destroyer on the basis of the IS-7 heavy tank was started in 1950. Three design projects were developed, one of which resulted in a full-size wooden prototype. However, further development was discontinued due to phasing out mass-production of the IS-7.
The Object 263 was once among the ranks of Tier X Russian Tank Destroyers (before replaced with Object 268 Version 4 in 9.22 patch). Also known as "The Sandal of Stalin" or "Yolo Wagon" as it was well-known for its rapid-firing gun with high DPM, and unexpected strong frontal armor.
The Object 263 is now downtiered into Tier IX position with toned down stats. It has become a cumbersome "Assault Gun" with very poor accuracy, pitiful DPM, and weaker side armor. It retains the good top speed but poor traverse speed and very strong frontal armor.
Always avoid getting flanked when playing this tank, as your sides and rear won't stand any shots. It's also good to take into account that side scraping is not advisable, due to the extremely weak ammo rack that the tank has, making it dangerous if you're over angling. Face hugging other tanks is not recommended as your gun mantlet is easily penetrated by very high penetrating guns, making it an easy target.
Hugging tall tanks, like the Maus, is also a dangerous idea, as they can easily overmatch your weak hull roof and out trade you easily. If the enemy is using premium ammunition, then it's better to take cover as the enemy can penetrate your front most of the time. The mobility on the Object 263 is rather flexible, with great acceleration and top speed, allowing it to get into position very quickly and support your team where needed. Another serious defect of this tank is the non-enclosed superstructure, exposing the entire crew and critical interior components. Direct hits from artillery will pretty much devastate you in one shot, or leave you extremely damaged. This often leaves you with injured crew members and a damaged ammo rack.
The Object 263 leads to the Object 268 Version 4.

Player Opinion
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- High penetrating default ammunition on top gun, but low APCR.
- Reasonable camo rating for its size
- Excellent frontal armor and hard to hit weak spots but weak lower plate. Makes snap shots tricky, especially from afar, and players who rarely see (And know) this tank will struggle to penetrate its unusually thick frontal armor
- Great top speed (55KM/H) makes it easy to take up sniping positions or for taking cover but now rather poor traverse speed impact its overall mobility.
- Great for Ramming with its high mobility and Its weight (60 tons)
Cons:
- Very poor armor everywhere except on the frontal arc
- Extremely vulnerable to artillery and tanks above, due to the open top and flat roof
- Lower glacis is rather easy to penetrate and premium ammunition / high caliber guns penetrates the gun mantlet reliably
- Very poor DPM both on stock gun and top gun, low rate-of-fire
- Poor gun handling. Poor accuracy, bad gun depression, and rather narrow gun arc
- Almost pathetic agility; turns like boat even when fully upgraded
- Ammo rack is easily damaged when shot in the sides and rear. And it can be visible and hit by enemies on hills
-Very underpowered gun for a Tier IX Tank Destroyer (top gun) very bad accuracy, rate of fire, and mediocre penetration (not on paper, but due to the accuracy) It has not just lower DPM than most TDS like the Sowjet Object 704 counterpart the BL10 with also considerably less accuracy.
Performance
The Object 263 was changed from a T10 to a Tier 9 tank destroyer. With this tier change it was changed considerably with its mobility being reduced drasticly and overall gun stats beeing very very poor for a Tier 9 tank destroyer. It now does not serve any role in the battle field well. Its poor gun stats prevent its use as a good sniper while its reduced mobility and besides the upper frontal armor extremely poor overall armor make its use as a brawler extremely risky. Extremely careful play with good map awareness and support against flanking is advised.
Early Research
An interesting matter is that the top gun, S-70A, actually weighs less that the stock gun, therefore it's possible to elite the vehicle without researching the tracks first, though it's not advised to grind the next vehicle omitting the top tracks. The top engine, boasting 1,100 horsepower should be placed at top priority: the extra acceleration really dictates the mobility. Without it, the already cumbersome vehicle will have great difficulty responding to the changing situations on the battlefield. The same M62-C2 gun carried over from the previous vehicle SU-101 receives better handling, higher RoF and outedges the top gun on accuracy and premium round penetration; while the top gun hits much harder, has slightly better shell velocity (more noticeable on APCR rounds) and has a bit more DPM. As such there's no urgent need to switch guns early, but it's required to move on to the next vehicle. The top radio offers only a negligible advantage on range and weight, and doesn't carry onto any other vehicles. Decide with your own preference.

Historical Info
In this regard, in 1950 the designers of the Leningrad Kirov Plant got the job done on the basis of the JS-7 languid self-propelled artillery. The project received the designation of "Object 263", and the lead designer of conceptual design was named VS Starovoytov. At first it was created three versions of the newest self-propelled guns, differing from each other by certain aspects of the design. While working on "object 263" these choices are "shared" by different aspects of the design and, ultimately, in the program there is only one version, and which was intended for a great future.
Since one of the main requirements for the latest ACS was the largest unification with the tank IS-7, its chassis was taken virtually without changes. Motor and transmission group remained the same: 12-cylinder V-type diesel M-50T capacity of 1,050 horsepower and a six-speed gearbox. The same can be said about the suspension, wheels and tracks. With all of this general assembly of the housing has been substantially adjusted. Reinforced cutting self-propelled guns had to be placed in the rear of the chassis because the engine and gearbox have been moved to the front. Fuel tanks, in turn, is now placed in the middle of the armored hull. Changing the alignment of the machine associated with the relinking was offset by the increase in thickness of the armor. First, it should be noted forehead "Object 263". In contrast to the forehead of the tank IS-7, He was made not by the "pike nose", and represents a single combination of straight panels. The main plus of the location of armor panels at an angle to each other is to increase the level of protection in relation to "direct". For this reason, the "Object 263" offered to equip the front plate of a width of 300 mm. The sides of the housing in the project were still the smallest thickness of 70 to 90 mm. As for the armored cabin, then she had a formidable defense: the frontal plate of 250 mm and 70 mm on the side. With such armor "Object 263" could withstand fire from all available guns medium tanks and a number of more severe guns.
The main armament of self-propelled artillery "Object 263" was to be gun C-70A. Practically, this was the future development of the C-70 gun set up for the JS-7. This project, Made in the Central Artillery Design Bureau under the VG Grabin risen to more pre-revolutionary naval gun B-7-caliber 130 mm. It should be noted that in several of the deepest modernization construction tool has been substantially modified and C-70A had almost nothing in common with the original B-7 except caliber. Cannon C-70A had a decent size, caused first a barrel length of 57.2 caliber. In addition, the larger were the breech and recoil device. Because of this assembly is cutting out quite unusual. The breech of the gun almost reached the back wall cutting. For this reason, the last had to make a flap. It was assumed that before the fight crew will drop this item and are able to work without fear of damage to logging. In addition, lean back a little back sheet increased the floor space of the crew compartment, which could significantly facilitate the work of the crew.
130-mm gun had a very great impact. Because a slotted muzzle brake system and recoil mechanism had to add a reference Lift Up a device resembling a dozer blade. Existing photo layout "Object 263" shows that in the last bottom position he held up to discover the lowered aft leaf cuttings. Along the sides of the cabin, on the inner side of them were located holders for ammunition. Shots were fixed separately loaded by seven on each side. For convenience, the shells were placed in a holder sleeve — in the other. Loading of the gun was the duty of 2-crew: loader and his assistant.
All in all, the crew SAU "Object 263" was to go 5 people: the commander, a driver, gunner and two loaders. For direct fire crew had sight of TP-47, and to fire from concealed positions offered to equip the self-propelled gun TS-46. The estimated rate of "Object 263" was not great — in a minute the crew could manage to do less than one-half shots. The main premise of this was specific cutting assembly that prevented access those features that were in the JS-7 (about 6 shots). The low rate of fire, according to the views of military and developers should be compensated by the highest firing features a long-barrel gun. So, from a distance of two thousand meters-70A instrument with the use of armor-piercing projectile BR-482 was to punch up to 160-170 mm homogeneous armor (at an angle of meetings at 90 °).
First, in 1951 the latest conceptual design of self-propelled gun was ready, and he was presented to the commission of the Ministry of Defence. The military brass acquainted with the works of designers LCZ, then started assembling the full-scale mock ACS. On the model was planned to test some ideas and identify prepyadstviya assembly, ergonomics, etc. Just weeks after the end of the assembly layout "Object 263" order came from Moscow: finish work on the project. Of course, a 130-mm gun was a very good argument on the battlefield. But the calculated mass of the newest self-propelled artillery was at 60 tons. It was 8000 pounds less than that not so long ago closed the project IS-7, but still a lot of practical use in the existing criteria. The design of self-propelled, on a theoretical level, could be eased. But only at the cost of reducing the level of protection that it would be far not the most sensible solution. On the totality of the advantages and shortcomings main armored management decided that the Russian army, this technique is not necessary. The only built mock "Object 263" was dismantled, while the construction of the "in metal", it never came.
