?|This Tank Destroyer, unlike it predecessor the Renault UE 57, is a slow moving warehouse that will take some effort to get used to, once upgraded, it can equip an able 75mm long barreled gun that will take care of any foes up to your tier level, or a very powerful 105mm HE Cannon enough to destroy or cripple any higher tier tank that it may face, so using it before moving on the next tier can be a rewarding experience.+
? +
?Its front Hull armor doesnt hold enough strength to last, but the most glaring weak spot of this TD, is the small turret (also known as "The Tumor") in the top where it can be easily penetrated.+

?*You wont gain much improvements out of the researched suspension and engine, so mind that you'll most likely be left behind often, consider the use of this TD for base-defensive purposes mostly+
?*The accuracy of this TD is somewhere between Russian and American, don't expect to hit much on distances over 300m+
?*This tank goes best with a camo net as its quite sluggish to maneuver for relocation so you want to give as many shots as possible before getting spotted+
?*The 105mm Cannon deals massive Damage, but it requires patience and window of opportunity.+
?*The 75mm long barrel can barely penetrate tier 5 or 6 tanks, but the inaccuracy of it will downplay you, so you'll need to get closer often+

Two companies responded with their suggestions. Somua (Société d'Outillage Usinage Mécanique et d'd 'Artillerie) started the work on a project that was to become Somua SAU S40, and ARL (Atelier de Construction de Rueil0 was developing ARL 39V prototype.+

?Unlike ARM39 which highly relied on B1 tank, SOMUA derived SAU-40 from the very promising S 35 tank that proved to be the best tank in French arsenal on the beginning of the WW2. Somua SAU-40 prototype was to be finished in 1937, and should have been presented to the army. Unfortunately as it shared the main gun with competing ARL39V, it had to wait for a full year for the both primary and secondary armament to be mounted. Main armament was 75 mm APX gun, a modification of the model 1292 de Casemate gun originally developed for fortifications. Gun had a semi-automatic breech, automatic charging machine and very odd an unusual feature. It’s main gun could be retracted inside the hull to decrease the vehicle length. Secondary equipment was consisted of 7.5 mm caliber machinegun placed in the small turret on the roof. Very similar configuration to the competing ARL project. The 75 mm gun APX 1929 gun was to have a lateral displacement of 7 degrees to the left and 7,6 to the right with an excellent elevation from -10 to 30 degrees. Maximum effective expected range was to be 2000m, with an ammo rack was supplied with a total of 102 rounds. Optical instruments were quite advanced for it’s time, and they offered X4 magnification, with a field view of 125 degrees. +

?With the extremely high tension in Europe just prior to the breakout of WW2, France was desperate for any kind of armor, so Somua SAU-40 was also awarded with a contract for the first series production. An order for a total of 36 veichles was placed. Fall of France canceled all further development, and the production was stopped before it even began.+
