Specifically, the mismatch in crew values caused by commander's 10% crew skill bonus. Outside of a crew of 1 commander only, 100% crew is a fiction. The client values, given for 100% crew, will normally be taken into battle with 110% crew skill members aside from specific functions, causing their actual performance to deviate from the expected client value. These differences are taken into account in tooltip boxes.

Initially, this tank may seem more like a downgrade from a VK 4502 (P) Ausf. A, but give it time and get used to its unique playing style, and you could easily find yourself playing a part in tipping the battle in your team's favor.

Player Opinion

Pros and Cons

Pros:


  • One of the most well-adapted tanks for the "sidescraper" maneuver because of the rear mounted turret
  • Respectable frontal armor
  • Ability to rotate in place
  • Unlike its competitor the E-75, the 4502B does not use a front mounted transmission and is thus much less prone to engine fir


Cons:


  • Rear-mounted turret less adapted to "peek and shoot" city tactics
  • Large profile makes an easy target for artillery
  • Top gun has less penetration than that of any other tier 9 heavy tanks
  • Very weak side armor
  • Neglected by Wargaming to stay competitive with other tier 9 heavy tanks; has not the mobility, firepower, or armor of any of


Performance

Initially, the Ausf B. is slow and clumsy. Its rear-mounted turret makes it so you have to fully reveal yourself from cover to fire if you adopt traditional tactics. Instead, angle your front to protect it behind cover while exposing your side at an acute angle. Once upgraded, it makes up for some of its more awkward grievances. The armor is nicely sloped, allowing it to bounce a high percentage of shells. However, its frontal armor has a glaring weakness that is easy for most seasoned players to hit.

In some cases, the learning curve can become fairly expensive and you may suffer heavy financial hits until you've grown (or groaned) accustomed to this heavy tank. Don't give up. It's well worth the pain. If mastered, the Ausf B. can be a rewarding tank to play and is great preparation for the playing style of the Maus.

Two prototypes of this vehicle (one with the forward-mounted turret and the other with the rear-mounted turret) were designed by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, but it never entered production.

This tank, named the VK 4502 (P) Ausf. B in the game, is based on the prototype with the rear-mounted turret. The forward-mounted turret is represented by the VK 4502 (P) Ausf. A.
