Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Decent sloped armour, and very strong mantlet
  • Great DPM, fastastic for its tier
  • Very manouverable for a tank destroyer
  • Gets Soviet RNG
  • Gets Soviet Tank Destroyer HE Penetration

Cons:

  • Poor aim time and accuracy makes sniping difficult
  • Only 4o of gun depression makes fighting through hills challenging
  • Engine is prone to damage, and burning as well

Performance

The SU-122-44 features an excellent gun, the same as that on the IS and IS6, but unlike the heavy tanks, it has a very good rate of fire at 5.83 rounds per minute, allowing it to tear apart tier VII and even tier VIII tanks with ease. However, despite the great DPM and alpha damage, the SU-122-44's poor dispersion and aim time values make it ill-suited to sniping. Instead, it plays well as supporting firepower for the team's medium tanks. It has an excellent speed limit of 48km/h, and the traverse speed of 35 deg/s is pretty good for a TD. However, the specific power of 15.03 HP/ton, and poor terrain resistance values make the SU-122-44 very sluggish to accelerate. In addition, the tank is further limited by it's 4 degrees of gun depression, second worst in the game, only beaten by the SU-101's 2 degrees. This highly limits the vehicle's ability to fight in hilly terrain, and even small bumps and rises will present a serious challenge to this tank. It is decently protected though, and even though the hull front is only 90mm thick, it is very well sloped, and when angled, the 122-44 can bait a few bounces, but it cannot be relied upon to stop gold ammunition from same-tier tanks.

It currently has the best credit coefficient of all tier VII tanks, and can be used to grind credits easily, similar to it's tier VIII premium counterparts.
