König — German Tier V battleship.

El diseño del König estaba basado en el Kaiser, la clase anterior de acorazados. El nuevo barco estaba equipado con una sola torreta lateral situada junto a la línea central, que reemplazaba la disposición anterior de dos torretas laterales. El SMS König se construyó en el astillero de Wilhelmshaven y entró en servicio al empezar la Primera Guerra Mundial. Durante la batalla de Jutlandia, este acorazado sufrió daños significativos y absorbió 1600 toneladas de agua. Tras la capitulación de Alemania, el König se remolcó al Scapa Flow, donde la tripulación lo hundió el 21 de junio de 1918. Los restos del barco aún siguen en el fondo marino.

Player Opinion

Performance

The König is a decent tier 5 battleship with the sloping "turtleback" deck armour protecting the citadel of the ship. The Bow on the König can take a significant amount of armour piercing fire but doing this means that you can only fire four of your ten guns at the enemy. Don`t be fooled by the good armour though, she will succumb to concentrated fire. The guns are decent, but do, in some aspects, leave a bit to be desired especially against battleships as the guns have a low calibre. The guns are still perfectly serviceable against cruisers and the lower calibre does prevent over-penetrations in some cases which makes the König an effective cruiser killer. The high shell speed of the guns and the good accuracy for a German battleship mean that the König is also good at longer ranges, a contrast to the Kaiser before her.

The secondary armament is comprehensive and will discourage most destroyers from closing the distance to you as well as coming in handy in a close quarters fight with another battleship.

The anti-aircraft suite is nothing to sneeze at either and with the c hull you can take some of the sting out of a torpedo bomber squadron but it isn`t good enough to fend of an entire carrier attack.

The concealment is, for a battleship, rather good 14.6km detection range, the stealthiest of any of the tier 5 battleships. This does give you a bit of flexibility when re-positioning.

The manoeuvrability of the König is rather poor as the acceleration and rudder shift are very slow. The top speed is decent at 24 knots which is serviceable.

Pros:

The guns, while smaller than her peers, have excellent ballistics, shell velocity and arc, extremely deadly towards cruisers showing broadside
Fast reload time at 25 seconds
Good shell dispersion for a German Battleship
Good AA for her tier, though she cannot fend off air raids on her own
Comperhensive secondary armament
Best armor and concealment at her tier
Decent firing angle despite middle turret placement
Decent survivability

Cons:

Sluggish maneuverability, difficult to dodge torpedo drops from planes and destroyers
While the top speed is decent, acceleration from a stand still is slow and frustrating even for a Battleship
Turrets have poor traverse speed, 60 seconds for a full 180 degree turn, but can be upgraded with captain skills.
Guns do inconsistent damage towards other Battleships due to its smaller caliber
