Roon — German Tier IX cruiser.
Tras el rechazo del Tratado de Versalles y la firma del Acuerdo Naval Anglo-Alemán, Alemania prosiguió el desarrollo de los buques «ironclad» de clase Deutschland. Se valoraron más de veinte borradores de diseño. Según los requisitos, su velocidad tenía que superar los 34 nudos, y una forma de lograrlo era reducir el calibre de los cañones principales a 203 mm, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que ya se había diseñado una torreta triple de 203 mm. La mejor opción habría sido implantar tres torretas de este tipo en lugar de dos torretas con cañones de 283 mm.

Player Opinion
Performance
Roon can be considered the heavy cruiser equivalent of the Tier VI Nürnberg light cruiser. The tactics used while captaining Roon are a combination of both Nürnberg and the previous tier's Admiral Hipper. Because of the rather unique layout of the main battery, captains will constantly have to maneuver Roon in order to avoid taking excess damage (or at the very least, mitigating overall damage taken). The triple 203 mm cannons on the Roon start as the same guns mounted by Hipper a tier lower, so you should already be familiar with how they function in battle. However, the triple barrel cannons seem to have better dispersion than Hipper.
The biggest difference that you will notice between Roon and preceding German cruisers is the additional secondary batteries that the ship comes equipped with. In addition the the six twin 105mm dual purpose cannons, there are also a single twin barrel 150mm cannon at the front and four single 150mm cannons. Roon’s improved secondary battery will definitely help should an enemy destroyer attempt to close the distance with you. As far as her armor is concerned, Roon is definitely a step up from Hipper, but she remains vulnerable to plunging fire at long range. The AA on the stock hull is quite impressive — even for a German ship — and the torpedoes are the same G7a T1 captains are well-acquainted with by now. She does, unfortunately, get fewer torpedoes than Hipper, mounting only a single quadruple-tube launcher per side. One of Roon’s biggest weaknesses is her rudder shift time, which is on the slow side for a cruiser.
Overall, Roon is a solid all-around cruiser with good firepower and above-average AA capabilities.Pros:
- Strong AP damage.
- Excellent reload time.
- Excellent range and good dispersion.
- Armor is sufficient, if unspectacular.
- Has access to the improved version of Hydroacoustic Search available only to German ships.
- Solid AA defense.
- Quick turret traverse time helps lower her broadside exposure when firing the rear guns.
Cons:
- Doesn't carry as many torpedo tubes as Admiral Hipper.
- Rather slow rudder shift time for a cruiser.
- If her lone frontal turret gets knocked out, playing Roon well is difficult.
- High detection range for a cruiser.

Camouflage
Type 1, 2, or 5 camouflage can be equipped for credits; Types 1 or 5 are recommended at a minimum to reduce detectibility range.
Players who wish to spend doubloons can equip Roon with Type 19 camouflage that lowers her detection radius, reduces the accuracy of incoming shells, reduces her repair costs, and increases the amount of experience she earns.
