Ranger — Porte-avions américain Tier VI.

L'USS Ranger fut le premier navire américain conçu et construit en tant que porte-avions. Les caractéristiques techniques prévoyaient de créer un porte-avions avec un pont plat (aucune superstructure n'était prévue à l'origine), une vitesse de 32 nœuds, et un déplacement maximum de 18 000 tonnes. L'USS Ranger transportait un groupe aérien qui n'était que légèrement plus petit que les groupes aériens de ses prédécesseurs plus imposants. Le Ranger continua à servir dans l'Atlantique jusqu'à la fin de la guerre. Il escorta les premiers convois de l'Arctique qui partaient des États-Unis à destination de l'Islande, et fut ensuite utilisé en tant que transport d'avions, aidant à déployer des unités militaires qui débarquaient en Afrique.
